SA-93 or US Made AK Varient

I found a SA-93(like new) for about 950 and was debating on it, or to purchase a US Made AK variant, both having milled receivers. Any feedback will be appreciated.

thats sounds like alot of loot for an sa93…as much as i now dislike gunbroker, it does give an idea of what people are willing to pay, of course on other sites YMMV but i havent seen ones there average more than 750ish, there are exceptions…Most importantly, i encourage you to refer to the discussions and search the posts on www.theakforum.net.
many of the members here are also members there and there is a great deal of AK info to be found there.

but briefly i guess you have to ask yourself some questions…

i cannot answer the reason to own a bulgy receiver over a US receiver however there are PLEANTY of folks here that can break down the merits of each

I can ask, what is the primary purpose of this rifle?? once that is determined you can break it down a bit more…

-is this for a collection piece or for shooting?
-are you set on having a milled rifle?
-does it need to be a sa93? the sa95 is out there for 600-850. comes w poly furniture instead of wood, both are “ban” era rifles with butthole stock and fixed "gill "muzz brake and neutered lugs

if it is a just a shooter then the world is wide open
there are quite a few sam7’s floating around and rumours that new ones may be on the way. i own a “ban” version. the price was very right so i jumped on it and i love the way it shoots but love my stamped (foriegn and domestic receivered) rifles as well…however i have seen many sam7’s out there under $1k…there are quite a few flavours of sam7 so be sure to take note if its ban/no ban/de ban etc

so take a cruise to theakforum and check out some posts and figure out where to go from there, i still think 950 is alot for that rifle and there are pleanty of alternative both milled and stamped out there

Thanks for the reply and to answer.

I want this to be a shooter and I am leaning towards a milled receiver, from my understanding they are more rugged than the stamped ones.

TM.

for a shooter, i prefer to shoot my milled rifle at the range. i find its to be a reliable, accurate rifle. there is a great deal of debate whether a milled receiver is overkill on the ak. i am not “out in the field” every day but have yet to have a faliure in any of my rifles , stamped or milled. the majority of AK’s in use by armed fighters today is the stamped variety and has a reputation for its ruggedness and reliability. i am far from an authority of AK’s or shooting in general. i can only tell you what i have seen in person, heard from those who have legitimate experience or have personally experienced

again there are a def. a bunch of guys with a ton of AK knowledge and experience here that can help … i would listen to them and you can also check out theakforum.net…search there, fill your head with knowledge and then you can check in again when you get thouroughly confused. now again, im no expert-very far from it-but thats how i did it, i think that may be the easiest way

Unless you are going to carry it all day, every day, go with a milled. Everyone should have at least one milled AK.

$950 seems rather high unless it has already been un-banned by a competent AK gunsmith.

I’ve seen thumbhole stock ban era SA-93’s go for as low as $550.
