S&W M&P To Have New Trigger?

Anyone hear of this yet?
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=644627

Hadn’t heard about it, but I hope it’s true! The trigger is definitely one of the weak points of the M&P series in my opinion. I love the products from Apex Tactical, but I like keeping my guns stock if possible.

They have a new trigger that is called the “tactical reset trigger”, or something really close to it. I’m thinking this may be what is referred to in this linked discussion.

They NEED a new trigger no doubt about it.

I see they are currently making some models standard with illuminated sights. This, the current accuracy issues, and the trigger are the main reasons I just bought a Walther PPQ.

It seems the M&P line in currently in a flux state. I’ll come look again when they don’t seem like they are changing things up.

I don’t think I could suggest anyone buy an M&P right now. I like my 45 but I wouldn’t want to get stuck with the old trigger or old lockup if I didn’t have to.

I hope they do something about the sights and lockup at the same time.

Having the cheap epoxy dots fall out of the front sight is pretty inexcusable, IMHO. I’m also not thrilled about the possibility that my next M&P could be an 8" gun. If I had to choose, I would rather have to fix the trigger than worry about the accuracy and have to change sights.

I got to handle an M&P done by Boresight Solutions out of Miami this weekend. The trigger was amazing. My M&P is headed there for that trigger at a minimum, and probably a lot more work.

Update from THR

Following is a cut/paste from an email reply from Mark Dix of S&W.

"Hey Mike,

We are in fact coming out with a cleaner, crisper trigger for the M&P pistols. The initial offering will be for the smaller calibers first- 9mm, .40, and .357Sig. The time line for a full scale production is slated for April/ May. This new trigger should be the standard for the M&Ps come summer. The reset is shorter, crisper, and smoother with none of the “false reset’ that some of the pistols have now.

The only fly in the ointment for you is we haven’t been told when the trigger will be available for the .45, as that will require additional testing as the .45 doesn’t share parts with the other calibers. We haven’t been provided pricing yet for retro-fitting current guns. This system will only be offered for pistols that have or can be setup with the thumb safety. If your .45 has a thumb safety, it will easily convert to the new trigger when it becomes available for the .45.

I hope this helps. I realize it doesn’t answer the two most important questions- when available and how much- but know it’s coming.

M"

I would prefer they reduce the group size to less than 8" at 25 yards.

This. Hopefully that will be next on their list.

Wow that’s a big catch that IMO kinda’ spoils the whole value of this trigger upgrade, if true. S&W says per post above, “We haven’t been provided pricing yet for retro-fitting current guns. This system will only be offered for pistols that have or can be setup with the thumb safety.”

I hope that what he’s saying applies ONLY to .45’s. It would be a bummer if you can only get the retrofit trigger on M&P 9’s/40’s that have safeties.

Well, there’s always Apex Tactical…

Uh…

I like the M&P trigger and M&P sights and prefer them to what comes with a Glock.

There is nothing wrong with the “lock-up” of M&P’s, except the full size 9 mm.

I like the modularity of the M&P and the fact it is easy to modify and upgrade as product improvements are developed.

Oh…and the M&P’s with the safeties are definitely the best ones…

Agreed. I prefer the M&P trigger over the Glock. I have both and carry the M&P over the Glock because of the trigger. I, however, don’t like the thumb safety and have removed it on the ones that had it. This being said, I would try the new trigger.

My M&P 45 has performed flawlessly for me with the stock trigger. I did have the APEX DCAEK installed and like it but the difference really wasn’t noticeable enough for me to be super impressed with it. It is better but not by enough for me to be floored by it.

I really like my M&P’s but I have the triggers worked over by Doug at ATEI.

If Smith makes a trigger setup with a better reset, I’d all for that, but as for the trigger pull itself it’s gonna tough to overcome the parts avaialbe from Doug or Apex.

However the new trigger works, I hope it will not have a longer trigger reach than the current trigger. I have small hands and the M&P is one of the most ergonomic double stack pistols I have tried.

Really? I personally put M&P behind HK P30 and Walther PPQ. Above Glock which is above XD though.

I’m sure they won’t make the trigger reach any longer.

I’ll be getting my M&P .40 C with VTAC NS, frame, back straps, mag Ext. CeraKoted in OD with the APEX DCAEK installed. Pick it up in about a week.
Also a Streamlight TLR-4.
Will see how it compares to my G27.

The trigger will be “improved”, most likely it will simply be the installation of the “performance sear” and maybe rounding of the safety plunger.

It will not be as good as an ATEi or APEX trigger, no way, no how.

So if you’re waiting for this totally awesome new trigger from S&W I wouldn’t hold my breath.

You don’t think they are going to steal the PPQ trigger? I think it’s “almost” as good as yours for the M&P. It’s still kind of mushy compared to yours but it’s short.
