Man this is tempting. Hmmm. How to hide a $474.00 deficit in the household budget and a new M&P 45 in dark earth? I guess I have something to ponder now.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but LE isn’t military.
Not saying you guys don’t put it on the line daily, but you also don’t have to deal with IEDs and getting mortared. I think this is S&Ws way of saying “thank you” to the guys that do and recognizing what they do.
And I don’t think S&W is doing it to generate or promote more sales.
IDK AUG, I have done patrols were we seemed to be functioning like civilian police. A traffic stop is a scary thing. I know I don’t have the nerve to do police work day in and day out. I imagine the SGTs tell the their officers the same thing our S-2 used to tell us before we rolled out “there are bad guys out there and they want to kill you.” Either way it takes a special type of individual who is willing to don the camo and deploy or wear the badge and patrol our neighborhoods.
I believe S&W always offers this discount for .mil. I thought there was something already in place for the cops as well but could be mistaken. I guess I’m fortunate and whip out whichever ID is needed at the time.
You’d be surprised how many IEDs we encounter when raiding methlabs and marijuana groves, and we do get shot at every now and then. One grove I raided over the summer had three IEDs with pressure switches and stolen construction TNT. We also get a lot of Vietnam-style booby traps which have put a lot of us on extended sick leave. I will say that a big difference is that when we encounter IEDs we usually expect it and don’t encounter them on routine patrol. We also get a lot of injuries fighting with shit bags.
I think my point was that in terms of actually putting their products on the front lines to see use, they would get far more “use” in the hands of LE than military since it is quite rare for enlisted personel to carry a personal firearm.
Everybody takes risks and has a role to play. Let’s let the mil guys have this one, and join them in graciously saying thanks to S&W.
Don’t feel too badly about missing out. While 40% off is a a healthy percentage, it’s off MSRP. Some stuff can be found at or about the same price by being a smart internet shopper, or hitting your S&W LE dealer with creds in hand.
Beat me to it. If you buy from G&R Tactical or another S&W LE/Mil dealer, price is pretty much the same. If I remember correctly, an M&P40 with NS and 3 mags use to be $477. I’m not sure if it has gone up. Just email Grant and he’ll give you the current price.
The LE price has gone up around here. Cheapest quote I got was $509 & with the 40% off I’m looking @ $432 + $25 FFL which shaves a hare off since I’m not paying local tax or shipping. That was for the same pistol (IE-NS, 3 mags, & TS).
My point was not to diminish LE but to point out the distinction. Generally cops are home with their family once a day and take showers in their own bathroom and sleep in a real bed.
Fair points, but again I think it is more of a “thank you” than S&W seeking promotion or performance testimonials.
And as others have said, most manufacturers have LE programs in place. It is the military guys who usually get overlooked. Manufacturer programs are for issue weapons only and as we all know those don’t end up in your hands when your deployment is over and sure won’t be headed to the CMP.
