S&B Steel cased ammo at 5.56 pressure ?pic added

Last week I bought 3 boxes of Sellier & Bellot 5.56 55 grain m-193. I was thinking it would be brass cased m-193 I get out of the store and look into the boxes and to my surprise this stuff is loaded into steel cases :eek: Well I figured it most be some down loaded stuff like wolf.
Today I go to the range and I shoot 60 rounds of Q3131 no problem then 90 rounds of PMC bronze no problem. Since this was the first time I have shot steel cases out of my LMT I only loaded 2 rounds in the mag and was going to check it for short stroking well after 4 rounds I stopped the short stroke testing because this stuff was HOT:eek: It was cycling harder than the q3131 I had just shot. I loaded up 16 more rounds I had 2 double feeds 1 bad one the round got underneath the gas tube WTF range was very busy today and I didn’t spend much time trying to figure out what had happened. I loaded another 20 rounds in the same mag and all 20 fired fine but I mean this stuff feels very HOT I was very surprised I had another box but I put it back into the range bag. Finished the day off by shooting 90 rounds of wolf 62 grain no problems to report with wolf.

Does any body have any experience with this stuff?? how hot is it ?? Is it a good Idea to have steel cased ammo loaded this hot?

Good question I have been looking on the internet to find a box marked like mine but I have not had any luck. I will take some pics as soon as possible and post them.

I did pull one of the bullets and it is jacketed FMJBT and loaded with ball powder.

I have never had issues with S&B ammo being weak. When I was in Europe it was very affordable and good ammo to use. The S&B .308 ammo I have is also smoking hot.

I don’t mean to sound has if it is BAD to have it hot. I did get two malfunctions in the first mag but I didn’t shoot much of it just 40 rounds not enough to write it off.
It just really surprised me it was that hot considering it was loaded in steel case’s.
Another thing its boxer primed not berdan :confused: I thought that all steel cases were berdan primed.

I used to shoot a lot of S&B 223 like 10-12 years ago. It was brass cased and boxer primed. They probably have different product lines depending on who it was made for, etc.

Nope. There’s even some guys who have reloaded steel cases.

How old is it?

There’s still corrosive (!) S&B .308 from the 1980s for sale.

It’s cheap, but I wouldn’t touch it with a 10’ pole…
