Any preference? Does it matter?!
Thanks,
Pat
Your preference is what matters.
Do you prefer flat or arched mainspring housings on your 1911s? They feel different and can affect your natural point of aim. If you are not sure, it’s best to try other pistols or buy inexpensive MSH’s and try them first.
I prefer the flat mainspring housing.
Dave nailed it. You should try out flat and arched backstraps, figure out which work best for you, and go from there. I have both and prefer the arched
The way it was explained to me is, that you hold the pistol in your hand with your index finger extended. If the bore is angled below your finger you should go arched, if the bore is above your finger then go flat.
I go flat and have noticed a lot of custom builders do to but I have met some people who do need the arched.
Thanks for the helpful tips, guys. TB, I’ll try your suggestion, that sounds interesting. My MC Operator is due here in about a week and I’ll try it then.
Thanks,
Pat
As above, I’d try each, but do so with the grips you’re actually using. Made that mistake, but just got plain lucky on mine.
The S&A units are a great addition to the Springfields.
I use SA mag wells and have flat for my red dot sighted pistols and arched for my iron sighted pistols.
The arch helps to push the front sight up higher so I see it first.
Thanks again, guys.
I’ve been telling myself that I won’t do any mods or additions to the gun until I hit 1k rounds. I figure that should give me time to figure out what I want changed and what I want to stay the same.
The S&A is just one addition I’ve been thinking of. I’m also considering a set of VZ Operator II grips and maybe sending it to the Springfield Custom Shop for a reliability package and to get the extractor pinned.
I feel like an 8 year old girl with a freakin’ Barbie or something…
