Rust spots on flash hider

Hi, new to this forum. I pulled a stupid which resulted in surface water spots/rust spots on the flash hider. I’m up north in snow country and when UPS delivered my new upper, I brought in the box and immediately opened it up instead of letting it slowly warm to room temperature. Condensation happened and I thought I had wiped it of well and… I guess I didn’t. How can I remove the spots? It’s only on the flash hider and I’ve tried scrubbing it with Slip2000 725 cleaner with no luck. I thought of trying WD-40 but didn’t want to chance it.

hmm… odd. rust should scrub right out with just about any penetrating oily solventy substance. you using a bronze brush?

eta- WD40 is fine… there aren’t too many substances that cant hurt your guns

Yep, use a bronze brush and soak the area with oil. Scrub it with the brush and any rust of the type you describe should come right off (rust that’s only been there briefly). I do this on my guns and never had a problem. Don’t panic when the bronze brush leaves some brown smudges on the gun, this will come off with more oil and wiping with a rag.

I made the same mistake with my 870. Bronze brush soaked in oil as the previous poster mentioned worked perfectly. It did leave some brown scuz on the surface, but it wiped right off with a rag.

Thanx all, the bronze brush with slip2000 worked well.

If you ever have rust that’s more difficult to remove try some Kroil. I’ve had great luck using it for that purpose.
