So it looks like there is a possibility that all the major world powers will be standardized on 5.56…except for China that uses the 5.8. I wonder if this will make 5.56 supplies cheaper.
And just think. All this came about from Russia capturing several hundred Bushmasters from Georgia and realized the superiority of Western arms…
:jester:
On a more serious note, as more and more countries move into free market economies and become demand driven, only those countries with active militaries (attrition replacements) or those with high ownership of firearms (civilian demand) will be able to sustain weapons manufacturing capabilities.
In Russia’s case it is very difficult to support robust arms manufacturing base if you aren’t giving away AK’s to everyone in the world with copy of the Communist Manifesto and “Death to the Capitalist Pigs” T-Shirt and instead are actually trying to sell a 6-8 MOA rifle with no optic capabilities, little to no modularity where “arsenal refurbish” means “take out the grip screw Comrade, that should fit this other rifle, none of the other parts will fit anything else but we can cut the reciever in half and sell the rest of the parts to those monkeys at Century Arms”.
Well this could be awesome fucking news were it not for that stupid ass barrel ban. Could you imagine the flood of 74 and 74 M kits if this happened 10 years ago.
Many guns like the Galil, FN FNC, and the Sig 550 series are very very similar
Those are not AK’s though. And the galil has worse features than the russian AK.
The only thing I think they should do is change the receiver so it has a upper like a FNC that is a ton easier to put optics on.
optics are plenty easy to put onto AK’s that are set up for optics. The problem is if you want to disassemble the rifle with a low mounted optic on top of the receiver, you’d have to take off the optic, which would affect zero.
In that case, I could see Ivan possibly adopt the 5.56 over the ChiCom 5.8.
No way in hell. The Russians are full of pride so I don’t believe the 5.45mm is going to be phased out. Hell, 7.62x39mm isn’t even fully phased out.
Then you have issues with 5.56mm and steel cased rounds…
They have experimented with 6mm cartridges and if anything, that would be the next bet for a new weapon + round complex.
Where did you get this? A Galil has a safety on the left side of the grip that can be activated by the firing hand’s thumb without breaking the firing grip while maintaining both hands on the gun–kinda like you can do on an AR-15.
