I’m trying to get a feel of what seems to be the best option for carrying while running. I am looking to carry an air weight j frame or possibly a kel tec or diamondback .380. I know of belly bands but I am worried about how they hold up to the rigors of running as far as staying in position. Any advice is welcome, thanks! ![]()
I carry a Ruger LCR in a DeSantis Nemesis holster that fits in a blue DeSantis Gunny Sack Jr.
I use a compact M&P40 in a fanny pack.
I carry a G22 in a camelback mule. The weight isn’t bad and it’s nice having the water and somewhere to carry my cellphone, house keys, wallet and badge.
“I use a compact M&P40 in a fanny pack.”
Sure, maybe at a 12 minute/mile jogging pace for one or two miles but not “running” four to six miles or more.
Carry a small stainless folding blade with a clip, the armband for an iPod is an idea place for it, less sweat/less corrosion. If you need iron where you are running then you should be running somewhere else.
I have used a SmartCarry holster for years while running. I have carried a Glock 27, Kahr PM9, and yes even an M&P Compact on occasion.
Right now it is the PM9 in the SmartCarry and pepper spray on my hip in a belt holster clipped to in my running gear.

If you want, I’ll donate a new Uncle Mikes belly band size med with holster for G26/27 sized autos, for you to try/experiment with. It’s new, just wasn’t what I wanted. PM if you want it.
I appreciate the offer I might have to take you up on it, I just don’t have a small framed weapon at the moment. I’m really trying to keep it as minimal as possible I do run with an iPod in an armband the big thing is I run at night and four legged creatures are my concern more than the two legged kind. All I run with at the moment is my iPod and have one of my old mil ID tags incase something happens as I hate to run with crap in my pockets and wear running shorts, I’ve considered the camel back option but it seems a bit much.
I’m also interested in finding a good way to carry when working out, running and biking.
Has anyone tried the Pistolwear PT1?
It looks interesting but the videos bug me because they do not show a drawstroke utilizing a proper grip.
My concern is that while this holster might hold a gun it doesn’t keep the gun oriented in a consistant manner.
No prob., just advise if it’s needed. You can always buy/add a different size holster to it.
This looks interesting, I’d like to see a better video with it in use and hear some user feedback.
this is what I normally carry. Items are pushed down a little further, but it works for me. i run about an 8 minute mile.
At night, I run with the light in my hand.
As I am running and leaning forward, you cannot even tell it is there.

Robert is the POC.
Works the best when I’m running w/ clients etc.
Other apps as well.
Tried all the others as well (pistol wear, belly band etc.)
Wrote something a while back but a member here was so intent on derailing the thread I never showed a pic.
Pistol has been rotated now to horizontal positon for running etc.

HTH…
I’m interested in this thread as well. I’ve tried the 5.11 underarmor type shirts where the pistol sits underneath your arm and its ok, very concealable, access is ok, but I end up having to get the shirt really tight to prevent the gun from bouncing and this is with a G26 / J-frame
I’ve also tried the wilderness safepacker holster w/ fanny pack attachment but that bounces too much also. I am currently using a generic running pouch that I tuck my 642 into along w/ my CCW and a speed strip/speed loader, I’ll post pictures when I get a chance. This solution has been working well for me but I’m always looking for better.
I am thinking about going the survival sheath rte, I’ve had a shoulder rig from him before for a tomahawk but never a pistol. HOPLOETHOS do you have any issues w/ retention or excessive printing w/ that rig under a loose tee shirt? did you need to rotate it horizontally in order to run with it? I’m having a little trouble picturing how that would work with the 3 straps and attachment points where they are.
Thanks,
GU
NO issues whatsoever other than make sure the shirt is big enough to hide a Food Blister if you sport one.
It will come how you request Robert to set it up.
You can rotate it at a later date if you desire that method of carry. The method in the pic below is my prefered method for running.
For walking or static the pics above are my prefered method due to faster draw access.
Here’s a self explanatary pic:

BTW,
FAM/DSS/USSS/DEA all use these and it is one of their tradecraft secrets that they don’t share.
HTH…
HOPLOETHOS, makes much more sense now, thanks. I think I’m going to pick one of those up orriented like it is in the second picture for my J-frame.
Thanks,
GU
GU et al,
Here are some current pics of me currently working on Saudi Royal Family “Gold” house gig in Bel Air, CA. until Ramadan…

I carry a Kahr PM9 in my CamelBack and it works well for me. It is a little slow to access, but can be done smoothly with some practice. I do not like to keep the firearm directly on my person because of my corrosive sweat.
If 4 legged critters are you problem then why not pepper spray? Have you looked into a NA 22 mag. ? You could carry it tucked into your Ipod band…

Or a little 380 in one of these
HOPLOETHOS,
Thanks for posting, that must have been an interesting gig, that mansion must have been beautiful on the inside.
I’ve been running recently with a belly band, carrying a J-Frame w/ 2 speed strips. As long as I wear a shirt under the bellyband the pistol stays relatively dry and its been quite comfortable, though I only go on 3-4 mi runs now a days.

I just wear my normal nylon carry belt around my waist (this is with shorts with no belt loops) and my holster, and mag pouch, are in the same place they always are (AIWB). The muzzle is tucked in the shorts. I wear a big t-shirt over it. No problem and I get to carry the same gun and same reload, all in the same place.
