Ruger SR 556

I just got my new SR556 to the range and it broke down within 20 shots. I had a scope on it and as I tried to dial it in I actually ran out of windage. The closest I could get with the proven Leupold scope was more than a foot to far left. The open sights were on, but the scope??? Then the gas piston froze, and I mean froze! The bolt won’t close so I can’t open the action. I am furious!!! I have never had a worse performance from any military small arm. I sold good weapons to get this hunk of crap! I will call Ruger in the A.M. and I will keep you posted on this thread, but until I get to the bottom of this, I would hold off on buying one of these rifles. I feel a recall coming on.

It is usually me that this sort of thing happens to… so I feel your pain.

This is not good… but Ruger will make it good… they have to.

Sorry to hear it, bro.

FWIW, everyone screams glorious praises on Ruger’s customer service. Keep us posted.

Assuming something genuinely broke on it, and assuming it’s BETTER than new when you get it back, do NOT - regardless what the marketing hype might be  - EVER run a piston rifle DRY. I like that the innards of mine (POF) are shiny & smooth - I STLL run it wet. That always eliminates one possibility of rifle failure, at least…

Oh man, my heart bleeds for you. Ruger should take good care of you. Best of luck with all that. I saw my first on the gun store rack Sat. $1600.

And you would not have had such poor performance from any actual military grade weapon, which the ruger SR556 is not, nor was it designed to be. Sorry about your luck, but I find it prudent to stay away from all of these innovative new ruger designs that end up being recalled and subsequently discontinued.

Should have bought some 10/22’s and TAPCO’ed them!!!

Seriously, I hate that this has happened to you. Ruger has too much to lose here lately, and I am sorry for them as well. Remember the P89 fiasco?

C’mon, Ruger. Your consumers deserve the trust we put in you!!!

(And to think I once looked forward to the XGI in 7.62x51mm!! Remember that?!?)
