I just bought a new Ruger 10-22. Any aftermarket triggers worth a shit, how much to spend for the $300 gun?

Volquartson. Ive used their stuff for almost 20 years now. Their target hammer and sear alone will automatically give you an incredible trigger.
If you want to spend the money, look at Kidd triggers. My 10/22 is about $800 as it sits right now, and it’s about to get a Kidd… I’m already way more into my 10/22 than I should be as it is, so I figure what’s another $200
I do my own triggers, I get my 10/22 trigger down to 1.25-1.5 and stop. I never tried to go lower then that but I have heard of guys getting stock parts safely down under one pound pull.
I would suggest a KIDD drop in kit with the extra trigger return spring pack for tuning if your not into DIY.

i’ve owned the volquartsen 2000 trigger for 8 years or so and can vouch for it being an exceptional trigger. (and i’m kinda picky about triggers)
Go big and get a John Norrell trigger pack (if you have the money).
Rimfire Central’s website has a lot of good, detailed reviews of triggers and other aftermarket parts. I’m thinking about building a 10/22 for a nephew, and have been doing a lot of research there.
Hope that helps.
This. If you don’t wan’t to spend a crap load of money on the trigger, this helps quite a bit. It won’t be as nice as some of the other triggers mentioned here, but it does help.
This. A Kidd drop in for $105 or for even less have Brimstone rework your factory starting at $35.
Thanks to everyone. I might this approach.
What base do you use. Mine came with a light / cheap weaver.
What scope you guys running. I was thinking bushy DOA of some flavor.
Pics of your set up, some of you have this project finished.

this was the gun i built for my daughter when she was 8. goal was something accurate for her to shoot prone off a bag with very lightweight front end and moderately heavy rear.
it is a “10/22” but there are no ruger parts in it, since i was still pretty salty over bill selling out gun owners at that time. it’s all volquartsen (barrel, stainless steel action, trigger) with a fajen stock i bought from midway. sightron scope on it i think i paid $30 for.

I have a Volquartsen trigger on my 10-22 and it’s excellent. I also had a 10-22 with a Kidd drop-in trigger kit, and I also had a 10-22 that I sent off to Brimstone to have it reworked. I never thought that there was even a little difference in trigger function between the three optons. All had about the same pull on my Lyman guage, all had an extraordinarily clean break, negligible overtravel, clean reset, minimal takeup. Personally, I think the Kidd drop-in kit is probably the best solution. Having said that, I sold two of those 10-22’s and the one I kept was the one with the Volquartsen trigger group in it. That 10-22, which I built from an old 1992 receiver I picked up on RimfireCentral.com, is an extraordinarily accurate rifle.

Nice looking guns. It’s pretty cool with what can be done.
Leupy VX-1 2-7 in a game reaper one piece mount. Nice combo and I got the scope for about half retail.

I have this trigger pack in both my 10/22 and Magnum Research 22 WMR…I’ve been very impressed.

How much to spend is up to you, but the sky is the limit.
I had a basic 10/22 with a stainless barrel and a nylon stock that I did a little bit to accurize. I shot it in a rimfire competition and did pretty well, but that made me want to squeeze all of the accuracy out of it that I could. I had already replaced the bolt lock, magazine release and extractor with Volquartsen parts, but I ended up doing the following as a winter project:
Replaced the stock and opened it up for free floating the barrel.
Replaced the barrel with a Volquartsen carbon fiber tension barrel.
Bedded the action and the first few inches of the barrel.
Had a trigger job done by Todd Toenges on Rimfire Central.
Installed a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40mm scope in a lowered scope base.
In total (including the initial purchase of the basic 10/22) I probably have close to $700 into it. The building was as much of a hobby as the shooting. Now, with good ammo it will make dime-size groups at 50 yards.
This is a picture of my uncle shooting it.
Absolutely. I played the custom 10/22 game and can say that buying a basic 10/22, and installing the above mentioned parts will provide you with a great gun. That being said, building an all-KIDD 10/22 was a blast (assuming you have $1,000 to play with).
I grabbed a Volquatsen for $170. Now I hope the factory barrel shoots well. I’d like to put on glass and roll.
OK Fellers,
If I buy a 10-22 barrel from Kidd, are they drop in or a bitch to put on? How bout that trigger group?
Got the trigger group from Volq. Any other key upgrades, I see they have everything in the world.
