Having installed a Fail Zero semi-auto BCG and hammer I have come across an odd problem. The hammer is of the round top type and has a binding problem. When the bolt is locked to the rear, the safety can be engaged but only with real difficulty, otherwise, it functions properly. I would like to keep it installed as the .22 conversion kit I have recommends the use of a round top style hammer. Any ideas out there about what I can do about this? Yes, going back to the original hammer is my next step, failing any bright ideas out there.
Could be an out of spec selector. I’ve had to replace a funky STAG selector that had a narrow trigger tail channel in it.
It was acting like the hammer was rubbing the bottom of the carrier badly.
Excellent suggestion, I’ll check that tonight.
Thank you MarkM, that was exactly the problem. The safety selector (aftermarket ambi of forgotten make) was fine with the original hammer combination but not the new FailZero nickel-teflon gee whiz hammer. Sitting in my parts box was a safety selector from LMT and it works just fine.
Cool!
I’m glad I could help. That problem had me extremely puzzled at one point. My selector had a few thousandths of latteral movement, so the problem would appear if the selector was to one side but work fine on the other side.
I finally ended up replacing the thing with a Colt selector from Brownells.
