Hi, are RRA lower parts kits any good? How is the fit and finish? Are they mil-spec? Have a chance to buy a couple of them just want to know. Another question, I buy parts from Specalized armament warehouse, they sell colt parts. They have a complete lower parts kit 0.155 semi auto. These are legal to install in a semi lower right? They are colt parts, but not cheap. How does the RRA Kit compare to the colt? Are the RRA kits the small pin 0.155? Thanks any advice will help. My stripped lower is a Kaiser Defense small pin. 0.155 Thanks any info will help me out.
Try a search using “LPK” as a search term.
“LPK” is too short to return any results.
Use google to search within this site, i.e., “site:m4carbine.net LPK”
I’’ answer your question since everyone likes to spout GTFO and search.
RRA lower parts kits are perfectly fine. The colt parts kit will cost you more due to the name alone.
I know I’ll get flamed by people here that have to justify spending extra money on something when there is no tangible benefit.
There was just a large thread about LPK.
The best LPK are G. & R. Tactical, Colt, LMT. Since those are very hard to come by, the next best option, that is readily available is RRA. RRA are .155 pins and can be found in the for sale forum here.
RRA have been hit and miss for me. 3 installed, 1 was fine, 1 had a REALLY heavy trigger, 1 had a horrible selector switch that needed filing and shaping to get the detent to work properly. I have one in reserve that took a long time making its way to me and everything looks great, but I’ve been betrayed by looks before. Unfortunately other kits are out of my price range or unavailable.
My expereince is limited to 1 RRA LPK. But the one I have is about 4 years old with several thousand rounds through it and no issues. It should fit your lower fine. Is it a Colt? NO. Is it less expensive? Yes. Is one any better than the other? As you’ll hear here often, the Colt is held to a standard and the RRA is not. Is the Colt worth the $$$ difference to you? That’s up to you.

Why are we having these LPK’s discussion every couple of days???
I will make it easy for everyone, if your LPK’s does NOT come from a manufacturer with a .Mil Contract then the quality of the parts is GENERALLY ALWAYS going to be a crap shoot. Some people will get good ones and some people will get crap.
Are DPMS better than RRA? Are BM’s better than RRA? The answer is no. They all suck (just in different ways).

Thanks Guys for the info, I am going to spend the extra money and go with a Colt parts kit. At least they are mil-spec. I just want to build and shoot, not become a machinest, if you know what I mean. Thanks again;)
LOL…
(or is this an offense against the internet lingo thread?)

I searched but couldn’t find anything. What is the quality of High Standard parts? I don’t remember ever seeing them discussed.
Thanks
Grant pretty much hit the nail on the head.
FWIW, I would like to quote Pat Rogers concerning lower failures on another forum:
Off the top of my head, i’d say that the lower is responsible for maybe 5% of the issues.
The majority of the lower receiver issues are related to poor quality lower parts.
Bad springs, triggers, disconnectors.
Again, parts ain’t parts (to paraphrase Mr Perdue…)Any other problems can be traced to magwell clearances- a never ending issue.
We have seen some lower receivers from a high end company where the pistol grip screw hole was out of place.
Like wise, we have seen trigger pin holes misplaced. If the lower was made to spec, and the LPK is within spec (and probably most are not) there isn’t much room for a problem.
Even with out of spec parts, most still run pretty well.
If money were no object, then spending $200-$250 on a lower part kit would be no big deal. But money is a very big object for me. I am happy to hear it is not an issue for many on this board, especially in these economic times. But for me, I have to determine the best value for my dollar and overpriced LPK’s are just not it. Good quality bolts, now there’s money worth spending. Parts aren’t parts, as Pat indicates. But some parts are more critical than others and therefore are worth the additional cost.
That is because it gets talked about several times a week. Please do not go down the road with the “Colt is only a name”. It’s a dead end.
uh huh. Forrest Gump was wrong - life is NOT like a box of chocolates! Life is really more like a menu in a Mexican restaurant, where the choices you make today, can burn your ass tomorrow…
I went with a Double Star Lower w/ lower parts kit, on my last build, and must give them high marks. Nice crisp trigger and everything works as it should.![]()
Lousy. I had to send a bunch back.
Always try and remember that you will ALWAYS have new long term members signing up that will as questions as well as the “passing by” new members that have a mild interest in buying a gun and want to ask 1 or 2 things and then you will never see them again.
The fact is with all forums, you will have the same questions or similar ones resurface over and over. It’s not just here, it is every forum. It’s very tempting to get angry and/or frustrated over it, but the new post guy does not realize that hwe is asking something that has been asked 35,000 times already this year. Too him, he just found a site that he thinks can and will provide him the answer to the question that is burning inside him.
Si all I ask, is while you keep parroting the “use the search function” line, keep an eye on your heart and try too understand that these guys may be pretty new here and have not seen the repeating questions over and over to understand the attack from the go-to guys that berate him.
