I have a RRA rifle with LMT enhanced bolt and carrier and LMT buffer and spring. Is it normal for the Buffer to show wear at the point the carrier touches the buffer? It is a good bit of wear and only at 600-700 rounds.
Photo?
It is… depending. Usually there’s a rough or high spot on the back of the carrier that chews up the buffer face. You can take some light sand paper and smooth anything you find.
It’s hard to say for sure though… without seeing a pic of the buffer face. But this is not uncommon. It’s usually a little burr on the back of the carrier… where the buffer detent channel is milled in the bottom of the carrier.
I will take a pic tonight. Thanks.
If the wear is concentric and actually on the buffer face, I would not worry about it. This was taken last year when my lower had ~500 rounds on it. Note normal wear on buffer face at 1 o’clock:

If the outside edges of your buffer are nicked up, I would worry. This means your buffer is striking your buffer retaining pin. Not normal and will someday fuck things up.
Look forward to seeing your pics.
It’s not unusual. I had a carbine do the same thing. After the initial wear, I did not see much change for the next several thousand rounds. As long as the wear is concentric, I would not worry about it.
Yes, it’s just the back of the carrier making a partial ringing on the buffer. Not the retaining detent.
Then you’re good
This is how it looks. Bad for 600 rounds. All the silver round mark is all wear from the rear of the carrier. The center is the original color.
It appears to be wearing evenly. The finish on the face of the buffer appears to be softer than some I have seen, but it’s not a rare occurrence. I would apply a light coat of grease to the wear marks and not worry about it.
