Per Alex Robinson the XCR-M is his main project and he is aiming for this year, at price tag of about $1800 with a match trigger and a new SPR/SCAR type stock.
Pretty sweet deal for what you get IMHO. The final version is supposed to be very different so I wont get too married to the looks
It’s always annoyed me that I’ve got that dovetail on the gas block, and no sight to match it. I like how low the rear sight sits too, compared to the current AR offerings.
I’m anxious to see a rendering of Alex’s proposed SCAR-style stock.
Apparently those sights were intended for the XCR-L. Robinson is always tinkering.
Lots of XCR owners would like those sights I think. Just an FYI, real HK416 sights sit lower than standard AR15 sights and work really well with the XCR if you find standard AR15 sights dont work for you.
Which are SR25 mags, which is also what the Magpul Massoud is supposed to be using. Seems like more rifles going with the SR25 mag platform (ie- original AR10 mags) than the current AR10/M1A ones to me.
The more rifles that use the SR25 pattern mag the better. That means as they’re standardized even further, they will get cheaper.
I’m not a fan of the whole minimum real estate fad the SCAR entrants all seemed to use. Especially when you leave a couple inches of the operating system exposed. Really, what point does that serve? If they use Mil Spec rails and bring out a good stock, I’d probably be interested for $1,8000 MSRP.
I dont think the SCAR-H is using KAC mags. The HK417, and SIG SAPR dont either.
The SCAR and HK417 both use proprietary magazines that will likely cost much more than any other readily available magazine. The SAPR uses Sig 510 AMT mags because Sig apparently thought it was a good idea to use a surplus of 1950’s magazines they had stashed in their factory rather than make new magazines. That should play out real nice in the future when Sig will likely have to spend more money to make old heavy outdated magazines than a brand new better one.
In all cases, they should have used SR25 pattern magazines. I’m sure SOCOM would have really liked the idea of sharing mags between their gratuitously large number of SR25’s and the SCAR-H. The 417 will be a flop outside of groups who think Colt, FN, and HK are the only people in the world who make guns anyways, so who cares about it. Sig probably won’t sell 200 SAPR’s a year unless they sell them in the US where every Sig fan boy will just have to have one no matter how bad Sig USA butchers it with Chinese made AR15 accessories.
I think the SCAR-H is the only one of those three that will see real success, and I truly do think it would have benefited from using SR25 pattern mags instead of the “let’s make a FAL mag proprietary” route.
