Footage of the work done to a G17 slide to mount an RM02

Very cool, dotted pistols seem to be the way to go anymore? I have heard good things of th RMR, one of these days I will cough up the change for one. Thanks for the post !

No location boss’s?

Good on you for having ambition.

Nice work!

I prefer no indexing points. He hand fitted it, its not going anywhere.

Thanks.

Never attempted milling indexing pins into the slide mostly because the pin holes in the RMR hang slightly off the edge.

This photo exaggerates it but you get the idea:

You’d have a little less than 2/3 of the “pin” to mill into the slide.

Not being able to mill out an entire pin, the amount of extra work, plus it being over kill since the curve is hand filed until the RMR barely squeezes in is why I decided never to try.

Would be cool to see someone else try though

Index points or bosses are not well done on a hand driven mill to be properly located. I mill bosses in all my slides for all RDS sights but it has to be CNC done, to be tight. I kow one of the sight companies had a mill job done by another company without the bosses and it broke off the slide twice. That’s when they contacted me and had me build a gun for them. If hand milled it has to be ungodly tight or the screws will shear off. They should never handle shearing energy just hold the sight down.

Thanks for the input Mr. Bowie(IMHO you’re work is the cat’s meow btw). Makes sense to me. I do like ungodly tight things. That’s what I aimed for when hand filing. File till it “snaps” in, no wiggle, and won’t come out unless pulled out. Took a fair amount of time but that’s probably why I haven’t had any issues.
I’ve only done two glocks and both were done in the same fashion. The G19 has taken a fair amount of abuse

and it’s still ticking.

Dougs handiwork on my G19/ RMR slide.

Thats awesome. CNC envy…

Having not run into this problem in 400+ RMR installations over the past 2 years on OEM and LW slides, I’m wondering if there were other issues?

I’ve heard of screws working loose (no/wrong loctite) but never shearing. Yikes!.

Thanks.

On my LW 10mm long slide for Glock 20, I installed a Burris fastfire. Just drilled some holes on top, ran the tap and good to go. I replaced the original screws with larger 4mm screws for tighter fit. I’ve only got about 50 rounds of 10mm and 50 rounds of 40 through it, but it seems to be holding up fine so far.
The long slide is fairly heavy compared to a G19 slide, so slide velocity is probably a bit lower.
Red dots seem a bit slower the irons for me.
