I’d read several reports online of RMR’d handguns becoming unusable in heavy rain because of the lens fogging or just getting covered with rain. I shot my RMR’d CORE in a downpour and I had a blast. The optic performed flawlessly, and acted like a windshield with rain-x on it. I actually had to rip off my glasses because of fog, and the RMR kept going. I continue to be impressed.
“had a blast” I see what you did there.
Good info, thanks for sharing it.
I’ve been able to run my RMR in several training classes now and I could not be happier that I got it. My accuracy has improved tremendously.
Good info to have as I live in rainy Washington state and Im getting ready to rmr one of my G19’s.
Could depend on humidity. I’ve fogged up my PRO in the summer here a few times now.
I have shot mine in the rain a lot and bad things do happen once rain settles on the projector. When firing from concealment in a short time it doesn’t seem to matter but elongated shooting sessions do not seem to work out well in a lot of rain.
Fogging for me happens during cold weather when shooting from a high compressed ready
I probably ran through 3 or 4 mags and didn’t have any problems. We are blessed with warm rain here in GA though, that could be making the difference. Thanks for the reply.
I sweat like a monster. Going from air conditioned cars into the heat and humidity causes me fog. I dont carry my Unity Tactical slide as a result of this. Yay Florida!
My RMR’d G20 has performed flawlessly in more than a few downpours - some so heavy that I had to take off my shooting glasses to just see the target ( I know, safety violation but if you can’t see the target…) I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with the lens fogging on it or with too much water. Once, it had a mini pool built up from being holstered and I took a drink from it between stages but that’s because I’m a goofball.
Shooting guns with both RMR’s and DeltaPoints in the rain I have not seen major issues.
Worst I have had to to is give the gun a little flick to dislodge some water drops - the same I do with Aimpoints or other optics.
I’ve been using this Oakley Hydrophobic cleaner on my RMR.

I haven’t did any water tests but accidental fingerprints wipe right off.
I carried mine IWB for around a month and I noticed a lot of lint buildup on the back of the lens. I have one of these for my camera gear so and it makes short work of blasting the dust out. http://www.amazon.com/Giottos-AA1900-Rocket-Blaster-Large/dp/B00017LSPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403728172&sr=8-1&keywords=lens+blower
I used non fog wipes on my RMR and no major issues in the rain.
Double tap

I don’t live somewhere that gets much rain, most I have to worry about is dust/lint in the window from CCW.
Swab a 1/2 drop of dish soap on the inner surface of the lenses of your eye protection to prevent fogging - don’t just take them off! :fie:
How did the electronics in the RMR fare? I know they’re rated to 20m, but years of stress-testing sensitive equipment has jaded me…
I’ve had absolutely no issues so far. The brightness auto-adjusts appropriately (even going from complete darkness to bright light), zero has held and I’ve generally had several hundred trouble free rounds. My shooting with this pistol starts at 25m and goes from there. Longer shots are child’play.
