I am looking at the YHM customizable hand guard, and want to mount a Docter style red dot at the 45 right of top. YHM says I need an extra .5" on top of the 3/8" that is there now, but it seems a little low to me. Who has a offset red dot, and what are your thoughts? There is also the option of a 45 degree rail on the upper and mounting the red dot there. What say you all?
For the guys who have said upper, please explain why.
