I hope Bolton is paying Krebs a royalty on that gas block; it’s a carbon copy of his original KTR block (without the taper pins) that Marc designed and manufactured in 2002.
…and I’d still prefer a chrome lined mil-spec block to any bolt-on part.
I find this thread bizarre.
It’s a standard '74 with a triangle folder, commercial gas block, and an Ultimak rail and Surefire brake.
I would have used an AK100 folder, kept the mil spec block, kept the (very effective) '74 brake, and used a Texas dogleg rail.
(nobody asked me though…) ![]()
It’s a nice rifle, but nothing to get all horny over.
Edit.
Wow that’s kinda funny, Marc Krebs happends to be a friend of mine, I talk to him once a month as we compare notes on the state of the AK business. The blocks are similar in appearence but that’s about it. Marc has even bought a few of them from us so I don’t think he see’s a problem with it. If he has he has never mentioned it to me and we have had several conversions about design ripoffs.
Thanks!
Travis contacted us wanting a purpose built gun that was light weight, fast handling and flat shooting. All the features on the gun were requested by Travis Haley to achieve his needs.
He seems to be happy with it.
Sweet looking AK, glad I was on hand to see the event in person. Rifle Dynamics AK are GTG.
I actually think it might be quite a bit heavier.
+1
The shorter barrel would be nicer too for running suppressed.
Yup.
I haven’t heard anything terrible about it yet… but then I haven’t rushed out to get one yet either.
Edit.
Good to know. He’s a friend of mine as well.
I’ll have to ask him what he thinks of the block tomorrow when I call him.
I know Jim Fuller,owner of Rifle dynamics. Ex-Military. He’s a good dude.
Jim does a lot of non-trditional design, but there are reasons for them that do make sense. Thr bolton cobines the front sight tower and gas block ito one unit, which saves weight, and moves the weight back, making the front end feel even lighter yet. This makes the gun swing and move easier. You don’t want to move it ALL the way back becuaseof how that increases the violent action even mroe inside the receiver upon recoil - the shorter actions also tend to me rougher on parts. It’s definately not a look for everybody, and not everyone would want it, but I can say that if you picked one up you’d be amazd at the differance in feel - sort of like how a pencil barrel 16" ar feels to the M4 profil - lighter, faster, quicker.
Rifle dynamics makes a tops ehlf, top quality AK that I would have no problems staking my life on.
anyone know what grip that is? I don’t recognize it.
Looks like a US Palm
I was thinking that too but something must have been done to the texture… some type of stippiling? Robar?
Does anyone know if the Bolten Block is a somewhat easy install?
I would love to just have Jim build me a rifle but just don’t want to wait as long as the wait is currently. I completely understand how much demand they have right now that said I would like to be shooting whatever I buy this month, not having it in a shop waiting to be worked on.
So back to the story at hand I am curious if the process is as simple as removing the old gas block and sliding the Bolton on?
I would give Jim a call and/or send him an email. I am sure you will get a reply. Jim & his crew build some of the best AK’s ever made. They are very professional and will explain the process of how to install the Bolton Gas block.
O
I would love to just give him the business but my arsenal is just too small to have a rifle out of my hands for many weeks. I sent an email and hopefully they can help me out.
Way to go Jim! When one door closes another opens. glad to see you still on top!
I installed one bolton block myself, and it’s important to get it straight and locktite those screws, but it is very do-able for the regular guy with a little care and guidance.
Really nice!
The only thing I would change is the caliber…to 7.62x39. (and only because my AK and 3 SKSs share that caliber)
Other than that…its perfect.
