What are some of the rifle buffer options available. Searching, I’ve found just the standard M16 buffer and the JP low-mass rifle buffer weighing in at 3.0 oz. Are there any options in between? I’ve searched and come up blank.
I’m hoping to cure short-stroking of an 18" middy with A2 style stock. On full-pressure 5.56 loads or handloads, it cycles fine, but shooting bulk .223 Rem or Wolf loads, there are some issues. Any help would be appreciated.
If it a middy it should be getting enough pressure at the gas port and an 18’’ barrel length should provide enough dwell time.
Try checking the gas tube alignment just to be sure.
Is this a new build ? If so you might want to run 500+ rounds of 5.56 pressure ammo the BCG will tend to loosen up some what to that point
Try checking the gas rings maybe even replace with mcfarland gas rings might be worth a try.If you have no luck with the first 2 .
Thanks for the response. Yes it is a new build. Gas tube is lined up right. I suppose I’ll just try to lube up and shoot the crap out of it with 5.56 pressure loads.
I actually took the gas block off to make sure it was lined up correctly. Appears to be good to go. The set screw in the lo-pro gas block lines up with the dimple in the bbl. The gas tube sits centered in the upper receiver.
Its a new BCG and gas rings pass the test. But, I do think I may take it out today and try it with a different BCG just to confirm. Thanks for the idea.
I’d get this situation fixed. The RIFLE buffer system should be the EASIEST of all systems to run. There’s something wrong if you have an upper that doesn’t like the rifle buffer.
I had issues with an 18 inch barrel and rifle length gas system. My barrel is a Lothar Walther, but it can happen with any of them. It turned out the gas port was too small. After opening it up I never had another issue.
I have solved the issue. Though it was a new BCG from a “just as good” brand, there was something wrong. I replaced it with a brand new BCM F/A BCG and it now runs like a top. The old BCG passed the gas ring test, but I suspect they were the issue.
