I re-tasked this Eagle Escape & Evasion Bag to be my “work bag” as I am a Nurse Anesthetist so I need to have various scissors and hemostats handy as well as my call room keys, precordial stethoscope, pens, headache and GI drugs (chewable/dissolvable as no drinks in the OR), some alcohol wipes and eyeglass wipes, the omnipresent LaRue Dillo and other “stuff”.
This bag is in EI’s khaki color. It is a very well made bag with PLENTY of MOLLE that is covered so you can use it as I did or attach your low profile pouches of choice and stay covert. As you can see in the pics, there is a velcro loop strip on the outside for mounting patches and stuff. The outside compartment opens up via a double zipper and has 2 fixed tabs on the flap side and MOLLE on the bag side; plenty of room for whatever you want to put in there!
The main compartment is accessed by a double zipper as well. The inside has MOLLE along 1 side and both ends, where I have my pens, and a divider with velcro loop on it that velcro closes to the opposite side. There is a movable piece with a heavy elastic band that can be used for a pistol holder. Mine has lotion in it as I use alcohol based sanitizers countles times during the day…I know not nearly as helpful as the GLOCK! Behind this divider is another space that I have my iPhone charger and some meds and other small stuff. There is no MOLLE or velcro back there so it is a good little (and almost secret) storage space. There is also a drain hole with an eyelet in the bottom.
On the back there is another velro closed compartment that is full of velcro loop to be used with the pistol/lotion holder or for whatever you like. EI calls it a secret pistol compartment.
The handle is well thought out as it is a wide piece of webbing that is folded towards the center and sewn which narrows it in the middle like most carry handles get anyway. The shoulder strap is nice and wide with plenty of adjust ment and a nice sliding pad on it in case you put a lot of weight in the bag!
Each end sports a pocket with elastic around the top and a flap with velcro and a fastex buckle; I have silenced my velcro. There are tabs on the pocket that the flap portion of the buckle can fit under if you use velcro only; quite an ingenious design. These are pretty deep pocket and each will almost entirely take a 16 ounce soda bottle. They are slated as radio pouches I think but I can’t recall the specs for which radios they fit.
Overall this is a verry well made bag with the quality that we have come to expect from EI. All zippers have pull cords on them and everything is very well sewn. I would have no problem dumping my work gear out of it and using it as a bug out bag as it has plenty of versatility and that is the main reason that I chose it for my application. I highly recommend this bag as a bug out bag or a general daily gear bag because it is very versatile and can be converted quickly to many applications!
Good job, Sparky. I’m always happy to see the EI E&E get a little press. It’s a great bag.
Agile53, it hardly seems like it, but it’s actually been two years since I put up my own review. As they say, life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. Not to take anything away from Sparky, but here’s the link to that thread if anyone is interested: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=16386&highlight=Eagle
It’s almost two years to the day that I put my gray E&E into service, carrying it in some way virtually every day since. It has served with distinction in times and places I needed it most. Recommended.
I like the way you flipped the bag inside out…that showed the interior well! I had been meaning to do a quick and dirty review as I was certain some who was using it for it’s intended purpose had done a more comprehensive one. Great read thanks! Hey, did you cut the side flaps off or just tuck them in? I like that idea!
You are really bummed that the seams are not taped? That shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. I have had mine for over a year. It’s a quality well made bag and worth the cost. It just lacks all the small compartments you would see in Maxpedition type bags and the TNT bag.
Normal for every EI E&E of this type I’ve owned or seen. In other EI bags, some are taped and some aren’t. It’s a nice finishing touch, but I don’t believe anything is lost by not taping them. Certainly not a deal breaker for this bag.
That particular green bag lives with a colleague now, and he’s putting it to good use. The gray bag in the thread I linked to is still going strong, and has been a good friend.
