I’m building an A2 for my Dad using spare parts from different projects. I have an A1 stock and A2 handguards, but they are painted green. My dad being a traditionalist would prefere straight black.
For those who have painted their furniture, how do you remove the paint? I’ve tried a little Acetone but it evaporated too quickly. I know the easiest would be to just paint it black, but I would prefer to remove it if at all possible. Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for the idea’s. I think I’ll try the brake cleaner first, then the carb cleaner. I have both sitting in the garage. MEK would probably be a bit much for the stock and handguard, but I’ll keep it in mind if I ever have to remove some paint from the reciever/barrel.
i’ve used automotive paint stripper, aerosol version from auto parts store, on scopes, scope caps, rubberized stocks, and hard plastic pieces like a flashlight mount. i have had no negative impact on the parts. it lifts the paint off VERY well. just keep an eye on it, don’t let it sit overly long, and thoroughly rinse the parts with clean water when you are done.
