Removing Dry Film Lube

Ok, how can you remove milspec dry film lube? Is there any solvent that you recommend?

In other news, what do you think of using the spray on dry film lube? The bolt and bolt carrier seem like a good place for this.

Spray on dry lube never worked all that well in my AR15/ M16s, but after seeing how well it didn’t work, I didn’t bother trying anything extended, or different types.

There are a handful of different dry film lubes, I think simple spray degreaser takes most of them off pretty quickly, or at least it has for me. Acetone also eats it pretty quick.

Provided that liquid lube works better, I don’t see a reason for dry film lube.

Try non chlorinated automotive brake cleaner. It should do the trick and is readily available, and cheap.

What are you removing it from?

A chrome bolt carrier from (I think) an old M16A1.

Try scrubbing it with a toothbrush and some Simple Green if you have any around the house.

MEK will take it off too.

Acetone will too and with much less stress on your body.

MEK and a green pad does wonders but bad juju for you. Acetone is a little less volatile and works as well.

Yeah, I completely agree, MEK is rough stuff. Great de-greaser before painting thats for sure too. Must work in well ventilated area.
