Im tryin to make up my mind on wether to buy an XPS-2 or 516-A65 eotech. The difference is the built in 7mm riser on the 516-A65. Im really not sure if I want absolute co-witness or or 1/3 co-witness. So I was wondering if I went with the 516 that has the 7mm riser, is there a way I could remove the 7mm riser if I decide I dont like 1/3 co-witness?
Get an EXPS.
The XPS/EXPS series Eotechs are a step ahead of the older models because of the transverse battery compartment. This allows you to sidestep an issue with the inline-mounted battery models where the battery disconnects under recoil and turns the unit off while you’re shooting. I’ve had this happen on two separate Army issued Eotechs. I’ve since been using an XPS on a riser that I beat the crap out of and exposed to 130 degree temperatures day in and day out and it still runs like a champ. It’s also a little shorter. The EXPS is even better because it has its own mount; I wish they were available when I bought the XPS.
Of course you should try both and see what works for you but I highly recommend 1/3 cowitness. It gets the sight into a little bit more natural position and makes the sight tower less distracting. I don’t even notice the sight tower when I shoot 1/3 cowitness but when I’ve tried absolute it always seems to get in the way.
you can’t take the mount off a 516.
What riser are you using on your XPS?
what 2 models shut down on you?
