It is a good idea to aply red Locktide to the screw on the base after cero the red dot? Thanks
Red loctite is something like, what, ~300lbs of breakaway torque? More? Less? I think the advertised heat to melt and remove it is at least 400 degrees fahrenheit. I wouldn’t put red loctite on anything unless you’re positive you don’t want to ever remove it or take it off. I would not recommend using it on optics. Stick with blue loctite, and even still that can be difficult to remove and may ruin certain things.
My suggestion would be to use something like vibra tite that you coat the screw with and let dry, then assemble. It prevents backing out or loosening from vibration and will still be easy enough to remove by hand should you want to.
Blue Loctite.
Use a hairdryer to heat things up and make it easier to remove, should you need to, but that’s not normally the case. You can remove and reinstall about 5 times, after that it’s a good idea to clean the threads and apply a fresh coat.
Yup…blue is what you need.
There isn’t a bolt on my motorcycle that I use red locktite on instead of blue and that thing NEEDS to stay put together to keep me alive as I ride 80 down the hwy. If blue keeps my Harley together with all that vibration, it’ll keep your scope on.
Red will surely keep it there, but you may need a torch to get it off. How badly do you want it to stick?
