Remodeling The Carbine

currently i have a 16in carbine Spikes upper on a CMMG lower.

Rifle is speced as follows:

-Larue 7.0 Rail
-YHM Flip up FSB
-Magpul MOE Stock
-Magpul MOE Grip
-Magpul Trigger guard
-Standard A2 FH
-Home made sling
-MI SPLP BUIS.
-Standard Carbine buffer w/ AR15 BCG
-Surefire G2 in VLTOR offset mount
-Eotech 512 in American Defense mount

I really like my setup and am extremely happy with my rifle. It actually has a pretty good trigger now after installing JP Tactical 3.5lb FCG springs. However, over all, its just not quite the set up im looking for. what im looking for is something more like a Recce or recon style rifle.

Ive decided to re do the rifle as follows:

-Larue 11.0 Rail
-VLTOR EMOD
-MI flip up front site
-DD low profile gas block
-Gear Sector 2pt sling
-DD QD end plate mount
-Surefire MB556K muzzle break
-H3 buffer

I have long arms and dont feel like the 7 in rail offers enough rail estate. i went with the EMOD because i like its longer length and ability to store batteries on the weapon.

i know that the ar15 series weapons dont have much recoil as it is, however, the less the better. the faster and easier i can squeeze off follow up shots the better. the MB556K is supposed to be great at reducing recoil, and can also be used as a suppressor mount down the road (i plan on purchasing a surefire suppressor). the H3 buffer should also help in smoothing out the recoil impulse a little bit and mabey taking it a little easier on the parts.

I went with the gear sector sling because based on things ive read here and on weapon evolution, it sounds like jason builds some really great slings.

Id also like to give a big thanks to Grant at G&R tactical for the great prices and fast shipping as always. I ordered the surefire break, EMOD, and H3 buffer from him.

Bravo company for their services, i purchased the MI flip up front site and DD low profile GB from them.

Jason at gear sector. I ordered the sling and in about 5 min had a shipping number!

And all the great folks at Larue tactical, for handling my 4 phone calls in one day and then mix up with the credit card company.

With larue, i changed my order about 4 times at the last minute and they were extremely helpful each and every time. sorry guys. and then we ran into problems with the credit card company, which was taken care of promptly. i think this was the worst part of all, as of course, nobody at the CC company speaks passable english. what happened as my zip code changed a couple months ago and the zip on my card didnt match the zip on my shipping address so the card was denied. Amy was extremely helpful in working out that problem.

Austin was also great to deal with in helping me decide on the Surefire muzzle break, giving me first hand advice on it.

Over all the people at Larue are really a class act and they have my business for a lifetime. the products they build are second to none as well as their customer service. Through high school and into college i ran a landscaping business so, i understand firsthand how much of a pain in the ass it can be when a customer changes their mind four times on what they want/dont want.

All of the parts should be here by WED of this coming week, and ill have it all put together promptly, so ill be sure to post pics and a range report up ASAP! im really excited to see how this rifle puts out.

Looks like you went with some real quality pieces.

Be sure to post pics when you get everything installed.

Ok well most of the parts have arrived. im actually waiting for the rail, buffer, and surefire brake to arrive now, they should be here by this evening.

something worth noting, if you use a DD clamp on FSB with a Larue rail, your going to have to Shave off some metal to have it fit under the rail.

It appears that the gas block has an oversized gas hole in it so that you get a little wiggle room in installing it, which is good as while im pretty sure its on correctly, i was only able to align it with my eyes, but, my eyes say its on there straight or pretty damn close.

I also locktited and staked the screws to prevent them from loosening and then painted over the bare metal with flat black rust preventative high temp paint from ACE.
