Remington 870 Express Tactical Video Review

I was looking for a shotgun that I could use for HD/SD that would also have the ability to get consistent hits on a man size target at 50-75 meters; all while not breaking the bank. The Remington 870 Express Tactical has filled that role and done it well.

I didn’t bring any slugs for this video but have shot them out of this gun in since and it easily does what I’ve asked of it (hits on a man size target at 50-75m). Every shotgun barrel shoots different loads differently and this gun is no exception. I’ve tried two brands of slugs and both shoot high (about 8’’ at 50m) while the buckshot loads pattern at point of aim. I don’t think it’s an issue as long as the shooter is aware and holds low appropriately.

Initially I planned on only posting the shooting portion of this video but I received a lot of negative comments about the Express line of 870 line on the forums when I said I was going to review this gun so I added some content about the differences. I’ve heard on the forums that Remington’s QC has been a little spotty of late but I haven’t experienced that myself all…

Anyway, here’s the video:

Write up with differences between the Police and Express lineup:

Thanks for the review!

I just picked one up today at the local gun show.

You’re welcome! Enjoy your new scattergun brother.

Just picked up a 25077 myself… Looks to be able to do what I need it to do. And, when time and funds allow… I’ll be sending it to AI&P to get some sights, upgrade the extractor, put in the uprated springs and parkerize the finish… Can’t beat a proven platform.

Good video, I’ve owned the same one for about a year and have around 500 rounds (bird shot, 00 buck and slugs) through it with no failures. I did not like the stock and replaced it with a Mesa Tactical Urbino and also their mag clamp with a QD for a Blue Force Gear Vickers sling. I also replaced the breaching choke with a standard modified cylinder choke. I’ve been happy with it.

I have my fathers old 870 Wingmaster, from my guesstimate, its most likely a '70s build. Compared to my Mossberg 500, the action seems “tighter”. Is that common among 870s?

It is common, especially with the old wingmasters. IMO, they’re the nicest 870s out there.

Mossberg apparently makes their shotguns “loose” intentionally.
