Anyone have any experience with the Remington 1100 TAC 4? I’m looking for a semiauto shotgun for 3 gun and fun shooting. I had a Benelli m1 for a while. It was a good shotgun, but I want something with a little less recoil.
I like how this shotgun has changable chokes, 8 round magazine, and there are parts for it everywhere.
Reliability on the Remington autoloaders is hit-or-miss, it seems like you either get one that runs pretty much flawless, or you get one with lots of issues that can never really be resolved. For the record, it does seem that the 1100s do better in this department than the 11-87s.
Either way, they’re less tolerant of lower recoil loads than Benellis, the FN SLP, or the Mossberg 930 out of the box, but that can be corrected by changing to a lighter recoil spring (of course, this compromises your ability to use the shotgun with heavier loads. Cest la vie.)
Right now the most popular new shotgun for 3 gunning is the FN SLP Mk 1 and with very good reason. It can handle 7/8oz powderpuff loads and 3" magnums with equal aplomb, packs an 8+1 capacity and interchangeable choke tubes (like the 1100 you’re considering) and comes out of the box with the most versatile sighting setup available (front fiber optic bead with optional flip-up rear sight for slug shooting AND a cantilevered rail for optics). The only downside is apparently you’ve gotta clean them every 3 or 400 rounds due to carbon build-up around the gas piston.
The moral of the story: if it’s gonna be 3-gun exclusive, getting the 1100 and running a lighter spring it to shoot low-recoil loads might just be the ticket, but if you’re looking for an auto that does it all, the SLP is my pick (or would be, if I could afford one right now).
Don’t do it. By the FN. I sent my tac 4 back to Remington 4 times. Never was fixed.
Ouch. For the benefit of all of us here, can you elaborate on your experience a little bit more? What was wrong with the gun? what was your experience with Remington CS like?
In a nutshell, the gun would not cycle w light loads. It’s marketed as a 3 gun shotgun but wouldn’t work with loads 3 gunners use. Heavy buck and slug loads worked fine. Short stroked everything else. Even heavy trap loads. Went to sportsmans haven a couple times with no success ( they contract w Remington for service work). Then I sent it to Remington itself. Came back and still wouldn’t work. Finally got ahold of someone important and they gave me the option of getting a new 1100 or sending me a check for the purchase price of the one I had. I took the check.

I have a Tac4 I’ve used in a few matches over the last year without any problems with any ammo tried so far. I did install Tru Glo rifle sights on the vent rib for the longer slug shots.
Probably 500+ rds of Federal Wal-mart valupak #7.5 birdshot, Fed 00 buckshot, Rem slugs, etc.
I LOVE my 11-87 its been a great gun but like I just said in another thread I wouldn’t trust my life to it. It runs most of the time but it has its issues once in a while I have just learned how to deal with them.
