Rem 700 sps tactical dbm question...

Ive got a Rem 700 sps tactical and i was curious if anyone has tried to install this http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-473/Wyatt's-Outdoor-Detachable-Magazine/Detail into the factory hogue stock without any kind of major fitting.

If anyone has the hogue stock and a DM set up, any information on the subject would be appreciated. I really don’t want to replace the stock if i do not need to in order to run a box mag. Thanks for any help on the topic.

Upgrade the stock before you get detachable bottom metal. The hogue stock is junk.

I’m embarking on a .308 700 SPS Tac build too. The Hogue will be replaced with a B&C Medalist 2958 before I fire the first round through it (I prefer the more traditional varmint-style stock). Maybe there’s a Manners or McMillan in the future, I’ll see how the project goes.

Looks like I’ll be going with the SWFA SS HD 10x42 in Leupold Mk 4 rings/1-piece base. I plan on bedding the base to the receiver since I’m hearing that will probably be needed.

For loads, I’ll be working mostly with Sierra 168 MKs. In a Rem 700RS in .30-'06 I once had (22" sporter weight barrell), it shot 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips into clover leaf groups - I may give the 165 BTs a try.

I’ve got a ghillie green Hogue stock that I’ll send you to putz with if you like. I wouldn’t sell this thing to anyone. I tried to reinforce the fore end with square steel tubing and Alumalite; but alas, it’s still a P.O.S.

Most generally, yes there will be some fitting. As to how much, I can’t tell you that. Each one is a little different.

Kind of a rule of thumb to follow when a facility tells you its drop in, always expect to have to fit it to some degree and if it actually does drop in then that is a plus.

I went with the b&c M40 stock because it has the aluminum chassis all the way to the front swivel, the 2958 just has bedding blocks, and wont be as stiff. just something to think about.-J

lose the hogue stock if at all possible and stockysstocks.com you mentioned is a great place to find one. the hogue has to much flex and to test it run it from a bipod on a hard surface to forearm on a bag (or just move it with fingertip pressure as mine did ). i chose a bell and carlson with aluminum block bedding and a hook style stock. you did great in choosing the rifle, mine loves hornady 150 sst

This. Bottom metal is definitely important, but a new B&C or something along those lines should be your next buy.

Incorrect - the 2958 has the full AL chassis just like the M40. When I pull the front stud out, it’s a machine thread going into a pretty thick piece of AL embedded in the stock.

Like the m40 model, the 2958 is part of the B&C Medalist line that uses the full aluminum skeleton. Here is B&C’s catalog, the stocks we’re discussing are on page 6;

I stand corrected! I had judged by the stockys stocks website that model didnt come with the aluminum skeleton-J

After some studying on the topic, I have decided to go with a B&C light tactical stock with the “hook” mainly because I could not find one person that said they did not like it. Another reason is there was a good deal on a new one here locally. Thanks for all your input on the hogue stock being junk. The stockys’ DBM will be my next purchase in hopes for a “drop in” fit.
