I know there is a trhead somewhere about mags, but I can’t find it.
BCM has D & H magazines for sale and I was wondering whether they are GTG? I figure if BCM is selling them they are OK. Are the Magpul followers worth another buck? I have a couple of pmags and a Bushmaster which work fine so far, but I really don’t have enough experience with the AR to know anything.
HK mags are uber expensive, heavy, and waaaay less durable than Pmags. When you drop them thier feed lips bend wicked easy if they’re loaded. Magpul followers are worth the upgrade if you’re using USGI mags, but otherwise only buy Pmags.
They’re worth it, trust us.
I C. any difference regarding the robustness of construction between the pmag having window with respect to the one which does not have. (is that window in pmag weak ?)
No, not at all, both are insanely durable and if you ever get them to break, just contact Magpul and they’ll send you another. They have amazing customer service.
No; spring life has nothing to do with keeping mags loaded. There are numerous threads with a plethora of information regarding mag/spring life and what is the cause (The spring going back and forth is the cuase, not being stored loaded/fully depressed)
Pmags come with dust covers as well that remove the tension from the feed lips. Get pmags, load them and don’t worry.
It’s funny, I also have a bunch of PMAGs and HK mags. I like them both equally, which because of the cost led me to say, “Why wouldn’t I just buy PMAGs?”
Functionally, the Ps are just as good, if not better, IMO.
What I do is go to gunshows (VA or PA), get some prices from the various dealers there, go back to the place with the best price, get them to do just a bit better, and get a great deal. It’s amazing how well it works.
I think I bought 25 mags at the Harrisburg PA show last time. Go with friends for some additional buying power. We might have bought 100 amongst all of us.
Brownells with LE/MIL discount. Although driving through TN, I found a place in Murfreesboro (called “The Outpost Armory”) that was selling current generation PMAG’s for $11/ea, in wrapper.
