The pin retaining plate works just fine in milled receivers. I have one in my SLR-95.
I have just been blasting with 100 grit aluminum oxide, doing a final degreasing rinse, then applying the gun kote or cerakote. Seems to be holding up just fine without the park step.
This is the satin black, applied pretty heavily (the way I like to do it). It’s pretty glossy, so if you want something less glossy make sure to apply rather lightly, or get a flat version of the coating.
