His father seems to be quite forward thinking and has made many attempts to bring Saudi Arabia to a more reasonable level. Including the move to a Constitutional Monarchy and Tried to form a political party.

Strange as it may sound to some, Israel is a stabilizing presence in the region and an asset of sorts to the Sauds. If there were no Arab-Israeli conflict, it would arab-arab conflict, along old tribal and territorial lines.
