Red fiber optic front?

Just picked up a G34 and would like to do a red fiber optic front and I’m guesing plain black rear?

Are there any brand to stay clear of concerning durabilty? I’ve never ran a FO sight and have only seen one that keeps failing(TRUGLO FO/Tritium combo)

This would be just for range an matches.

tks!

I just bought a Dawson Precision adjustable rear and FO front sight combo. I’m going to be installing them on a G17 RTF2 tomorrow and probably shooting it on Monday. This setup was recommended to me on LF.net by some “knowledgeable” folks. I’ll post pics when they’re installed.

Also, I think the FO/Trit combo sights you are thinking of are made by TRUGLO, not Ameriglo. The sight is called the TFO, iirc.

I’ve HEARD that the Warren’s are good, but I know they don’t offer the variety of heights and widths that Dawson does.

I run TruGlo red front and green rears on my Gen4 g17 and my new G35. This is just for fun weapons also, but the Gen4 G17 has over 6K rounds with a lot of hard use and no issues with the sights. I love the red fronts, for my aging eyes and the type of vision that I have.

I also run the TruGlo fiber optic / tritium night sights on my Sig. Green front / green rear. If they had red tritium fronts, I would go that route. I am looking at running a set of green front and yellow rear fiber optic / tritiums on my G19.

At first, in the box, I thought the fiber optic was just too darn bright in daylight and can see how perhaps some people may not like this. However I quickly found that I liked it. It might be a good thing running a blacked out rear and red only fronts. I might actually try this out.

This is my set up.

Running a Dawson Front | Warren Rear on the G34 with no problems. My preferred set up.

What height front and width of the rear notch? How’s it hit at 25?

I have Dawson Adjustables and Warrens as seen above. Every gun I own has a flat black rear and red F/O front now. The Dawsons are more accurate for slow, deliberate fire but the Warrens are MUCH faster. For the typical shooting drills and scenarios I do (and most people here I’d imagine) I prefer the Warrens. I am going to open up the rear notch on my Dawsons, I think they are a little too narrow for my liking. This is not to say I dislike the Dawsons, I just like the Warren’s sight picture better. I like having the ability to actually zero my pistol sights. It took me a long time to get to where I was OK with adjustable pistol sights but I have seen enough of them work well and stay together now that it doesn’t scare me any more.

I do not know if this has any basis in science or anything, but at least to me, using a T1 with a little red dot on my rifle and a F/O front sight with a little red dot up front seems to make transitioning to my pistol’s sight picture easier. I think this is why I like the single red F/O up front and a flat black rear, I am always looking for the little red dot no matter what I am shooting. As stated before, that is only a personal observation and may have no basis in reality.

Dawson makes front sights for Warren rears if you need different heights or widths, FWIW.

The FO in my warren breaks constantly, I’ve burned through the provided green and red FO. I’m going to be swapping it out for a plain front.

My current 17 has the Heinie’s, I opened the rear to .150 and trimmed the top of the rear down also to get it to hit poa/poi at 25. It looks like the Warren set is .145? I just need to decide on the front width. I do need/like the “space” on the sides, have balance of speed and preision. After opening the rear on mine, haven’t seen a drop in accuracy.
Anyone have a pic of he different width’s with Warren.145 rear? Arms length would be cool.

+1 on a straight black warren tactical rear and dawson precision f/o front

all my competition guns have that setup … and so do the pros for a reason.

not recommended for carry

I just tore mine out this week. Best thing I could have done. I can say though that a red FO front with a warren plain rear is VERY nice.

I like the Warren FO .115 front painted orange with the red fiber optic installed. The Warren seems to be one of the most protected FO fronts available but because of that the fiber optic material is necessarily smaller in diameter. Works for my aging eyes.

I have a Warren red Fiber Optic front sitting around here somewhere. If I can find it, its yours. PM me an address to mail to.

Sweet! tks bub!

I too am a fan of the warren FO front and plain black warren/sevigny rear.

I started out with the Dawson adjustable rear and Dawson FO front and it works well, and is extremely accurate, but it is WAY slower than the Warren setup.

GU

I’m a big fan of my dawson sites.

reciept I believe says 87 shipped from dawson (mailed my slide in to have them put on)

Very durable, replaceable cord.

sorry if i’m jacking the thread…

how do you replace the fiber optic cord?

  1. Use a razorblade to cut the fiber in half.
  2. Take new fiber and “bell” one end of it using an open flame (not too close!)
  3. Insert new fiber with belled part towards your eye.
  4. turn slide upside down.
  5. melt other end of fiber until it snugs up into the front of the sight.
  6. Wipe off any soot.

thanks RAM engineer

Used Heinie rears with Dawson FO up front for years. Through many classes and have only had one issue of the FO falling out. Though between red and green. I like both depending on light conditions.

Called Va. Arms today and GotM4 had a Warren set in stock and sending out today, woohoo!
