Recommendations: History, Politics, Foreign Relations sub forum

Granted this is a weapons forum, this forum has a heavy military presence. Military history, along with politics/foreign relations plays a part here. It would be nice to see a forum or sub forum in GD relating to this.

This is just a history student speaking. What do you guys think?

I think there are too many sub forums as it is. EE is a perfect example, way too many categories and it is a pain to look at it, just to browse EE takes way to long for me to bother.

Is there anything we do right around here? We think you would bitch if we were handing out Gold bars!

Are you kidding?

You’d rather look through page after page of stuff you don’t want to find a few things that you do when the alternative is to say “I want a T-1…so I’ll go right to optics section of EE”? It doesn’t get much easier unless you’re just plain lazy.

Like it was said I’ve never seen you say anything positive about this forum and you seem to bitch a lot. Why even come here when you’re obviously happier somewhere else?

As a historian myself I don’t think a history thread is an entirely bad idea but I think it’s best covered in GD since it will invariably lead to the same sorts of disagreements as people don’t respond well to interpretations that differ from theirs and is easier for the mods to police.

Why is it that some people here feel utterly compelled to poke and prod every other post? On top of that, you dismiss the viable use of categories like they are some sort of nuisance.

Anyhow, Gutshot summed it up rather well. I am also a history fan and would frequent such a sub-forum, but if it may not be practical overall.

Wow, rather sad. I think that it is pretty damn easy and quick. But then I have never had a problem with this site and the way it is set up

If you want you can test this theory on me:D

I like the idea of a history sub-forum.

I find it funny that my thinking that there are too many sub forums is bitching, but someone asking for more is not bitching.

In the future I will try to make an effort to commend the staff every time something is changed on the site.

It’s not just one thing. It’s something of a pattern that most of us here have noticed.

The tenor between his suggestion and yours was miles apart.

EE is a perfect example, way too many categories and it is a pain to look at it, just to browse EE takes way to long for me to bother.

perna, the fact is, the EE section the easiest of all the forums to browse.

What you need to do is click on all forums read. That will pretty much set you to a clean slate. Then the next time you return click New Posts. In that list, no matter how long the EE posts will be highlighted in GREEN.

Not only that, but your New Posts list will be a single item so to speak. The New Posts will be your “single forum” for everything. For instance your threads may look like…

Charging handle question … AR Forum
M&P sear … Handguns
Pullups … Fitness
WTS Glock 19 for sale … EE Handguns
16" or 18" … AR Forum
Which powder for .223… Reloading

So you can see it does not matter which forum or sub-forum a message sits in, you will see them all as one collected item.

Read the ones you want. Then “mark as read” when finished and you will return to a new list next time. OR… don’t mark them and the next time you return the unread will still be there along with any new ones.

The more you use the software features the less you see the structure. There could be a forum for every individual part on an AR and it still would not change your concise “new post” view and navigation.

New Posts is also real time. so after you read a thread, click back into New Posts and if something new has come in it will be at top.
