Recommend me Some optics for Arsenal AK

I just bought myself an SGL21-76 from Arsenal. Recommend me some optics for it. I was thinking maybe an ACOG. But I’m not sure. Please Advise… :meeting:

Oh poop, I should have probably posted this in the Optics forum. Mobs please move if it creates a problem.:suicide2:

Well - if you want an ACOG there is basically 1 choice: TA33-13

Aimpoint Micro on an Ultimak gas tube rail using the factory mount.

Aimpoint 30mm tube Comp M2/M3, PRO; on a RS Regulate side mount if you have a scope rail on your receiver.

I was going to suggest the same things. Though I still haven’t decided which one I prefer/want to go with :o

What he said. As an aside, the Micro with the factory mount does give you a nice lower 1/3 co-witness with your irons. Blue loctite it, and rock on.

Yoda has spoken. The Ultimak and T1 combo is really hard to beat. Small compact rail, small lightweight optic that can handle the heat and the setup has been proven now for a number of years.

The bonus for me is that I don’t have to add a big bulky rail, I can use a quality optic and still have room for a light with the VLTOR offset mount.

Less is often more in many cases, this is one of those cases IMHO.

I did one of these on my arsenal SGL-20 41.

It will take a micro t1 (which I have not purchased…)

From the pics I’ve seen, it will co-witness with the stock iron sights.

I’ve only used the T-1/Ultimak combo but I haven’t seen a better option yet. I installed them with blue loctite and witness marks and it’s been running like a champ. After years of almost nonexistent AK optic mounting options it almost seems too easy.

Have any links for this setup? I’m still not totally sure what it is. I don’t know anything about optics.

Thank you. I thought there was a dedicated 762x39 ACOG. I just didn’t know which one it was.

Link to the second one Templar posted is in my sig.

Running it in a Vickers class back in 07/08 I think…

After trying a few different setups, I discovered weight and balance were the most important considerations for my optic setup, since the AK is heavier and more muzzle-heavy than a comparable AR15.

The best setup I’ve found given my goal is the TWS gen2 “dogleg” mount with a micro Aimpoint. It is the lightest current solution, allows the optic to be mounted close to the rear of the receiver for balance, allows a Russian type folding stock to fully collapse (I have an SLR-106FR), and also adds a rear peep sight that works with the standard front sight.

If your Arsenal has a sidemount rail, another consideration would be a micro Aimpoint on an RS Regulate side mount. This is just a few oz heavier but keeps the weight off the already heavy front end of the AK and makes switching optics easy if you have a magnified siderail-mount optic.

The Ultimak mount works, and is an easy one-stop solution for both a red dot optic and white light, but is a noticeably more muzzle heavy setup than either other option.

If you have the money and low weight is a goal, the Micro Aimpoint can’t be beat.

Take some time to look around the site and read some of the stuck threads at the top of the forum, lots of good information.

Aimpoint Micro all the way.

The Aimpoint T1 / MI Rail is a nice combo. At least with this particular rifle, I haven’t figured out a way to keep the cleaning rod. That is the main negative I’ve run into so far with this specific setup, but that’s the rail and not the optic. The T1 is a perfect choice if you have the extra scratch, but the Vortex Spark works all right if money is an issue (wouldn’t want a Spark on a gun that would be used for social purposes though). The location of the power button on the Spark is just not very well thought out. It can turn itself on easily in a range case, and eventually leave you with a prematurely dead battery. Just my opinion.

Edit.

Only thing I ever used with an AK are the sights it came with.
