Not for medical use, high lumens, not a lot of functions (high, low, off) maybe a strobe, waterproof-ish, AAA battery, durable and cheap (under $75). What’s my options?
This will be for edc and work (construction). I find that this style light is easier for me to carry than g2,6p,ed2 options.
Thanks
I shirt pocket carry a Streamlight Stylus everyday. The only con would be the cost of “AAAA” batteries. It has been a tank and is very bright for it’s size.
4 Sevens Preon 1 or 2. Highly regarded by the flashlight geeks.
I use my Preon 2 alot and really like it. Tailcap switch for on off and three brightness level by twisting the light head. Preon 1 on my keycain is a good back up light.
Like nutnfancy or don’t, but here’s a good review he did.
I personally recomend the Fenix LD01, technically it’s a keychain light. 1 AAA 3 brightness levels twisty style operation. Has been on my keychain for 2 years now and hasn’t failed me yet and is reasonably bright for it’s size. Also forgot to mention that it is much brighter than my streamlight stylus pro that runs on 2 AAA’s.
I carry a Streamlight Stylus Pro in my shirt pocket. It might not be exactly what you’re looking for because it only does on/off, not high/low or strobe. It seems reasonably waterproof. It’s around $25 locally, I think it’s less at Amazon. As already mentioned, it uses 2xAAA batteries.
I really like the little light, been carrying one for about 9 months now, cheap at around $12, lightweight, bright, and only two gripes is the batteries being hard to find and that I can’t work my smart phone with it as a pointer. And with 60 hours of continuous run time I have friends who bought two, if one set of batteries run out they plan on just picking up and running the second one. That said I have found the batteries local and have even seen them at my local grocery store. I personally own two, one white light that ride in my pocket and has been smacked, dropped, and beat to hell, and another one with a red LED that is in my map pouch on my kit.
I like the shape of the stylus, as it has a little more texture than the preon2’s slick body. But by the numbers, the preon2 seems like more bang for the buck. 4sevens output kills everyone else, and has pretty good runtime, and a 10 yr warranty. I guess I can live with the extra features as long as I don’t have to scroll through them to get to the important ones.

2nds on the Fenix LD01! I carry this same flashlight everyday in my change pocket. You never know how many times it came in handy. (As former LE, I’ve used it when my duty light failed). Well worth every penny I paid for it.

No special features. Just a nice fairly bright light with good spread and a decent center “spot” on or off with a forward clicky and a bite pad. Perfect for up close work and pretty good for normal night illumination. It’s not going to blind and attacker or spot a BG at 50yds but it won’t break the bank and the battery life is good.
I bought a Streamlight stylus pro for medical use. It works poorly for that goal, but it is very bright and a good all-around handlight.
I have one of these and love it. I use it all the time.
One of the great things about it is the high color rendering index (CRI). This means that it doesn’t have the annoying blue tint that most LED lights have. With this light, the colors you see arethe same as they appear in natural light.
