recomendation for a drop in trigger

I have a S&W M&P15 and was wondering what a good drop in trigger would work over the stock one. Or keep the stock one. ???

What are you trying to accomplish with the trigger change?

The only time a change an AR trigger is when I have a hunting or target setup, and like the 4lb-1lb two stage triggers by RRA, WOA, Knights, LMT and ArmaLite.

For a general purpose gun, I stick to the standard single stage triggers from whichever maker.

Other folks like a “tactical” 2-stage, and opt for Geissle, KAC, LMT, etc. It really boils down to personal preference as far as I am concerned.

Just looking for an easier pull smoother trigger. Mine isnt to bad.

I bought two of the new Iron Ridge Arms triggers. One fit very nicely, and one didn’t fit at all. The one that didn’t fit wouldn’t go into two different lowers (LMT and LWRC). But, the one that fit is really pretty nice.

If you want a nicer single stage trigger, it’s one option. I’d like to try the Timney trigger next.

If it is a fighting gun, leave it stock. There is no need to over-complicate something that is standardized.

From most economical to most expensive. Bill Springfield, Accuracy Speaks, Geissele. All three are nice single stage triggers.

If that’s all you want, try taking a dremel with a polishing wheel to the sear surfaces of the stock trigger. That’s what I do and it works fantastically!

+1… i got the bill springfield and Geissele

leave it stock

+2 on Bill Springfield. You send him your Hammer, Trigger and Disconnector and he will send it back to you with a nice 4lb pull and most of the overtravel gone. Cost is only $35 and that includes return shipping. Turnaround is usually one week. Here is his website. http://www.triggerwork.net/

how about the alexander arms trigger?

All the true drop in triggers are geared more towards benchrest/varmint shooting. Their pull is too light for serious use.

If you want a combat type trigger that is going to have a nicer pull, look at the geissele SSA.

I do want to use it for groundhog hunting so i dont know if the stock one will still be ok.

Can you use your factory trigger for varmint hunting? Sure. You do not have a varmint AR though so putting a 3lbs trigger in it is kind of like putting a race car enginge in a truck (and have not upgraded the suspension, tires, etc).

Are you talking about creep or overtravel? If overtravel (trigger movement after the break), how is he able to do that with just the parts supplied?

What is mine good for then. Are you telling me i couldnt hit a groundhog at 50 or 100 yards away.

There are four main things that affect accuracy in a gun. They are:

  1. Quality Trigger
  2. Quality Optic
  3. Quality Ammo
  4. Quality Barrel

You have a gun geared towards shooting people (not small rodents). Can you hit a ground hog at those distances? I would hope so. Can you hit groundhogs at 400yds with your trigger, barrel and none magnified optic? Most likely not.

100 YRDS is the most i would try for at groundhogs.

100 YRDS is the most i would try for at groundhogs. Also you are right it is used for home defense also.
