Recoil spring questions

Thinking of installing a S&A magwell on my new MC operator. Since I plan on ditching the ILS system on the gun when doing the change, I was wondering what recoil spring I need to run with it. I was thinking a Wilson 17 wire flat spring and spring guide. Is this enough recoil spring for a standard weight MSH spring on an SA pistol? Thanks ahead of time.

I run 18.5# recoil springs in my 1911’s (& replace about every 1,000 rounds or so).

The 17lb Flatwire will be just fine…for a very looooong time! If you have any questions, just let us know!

The flatwire spring is kinda interesting, but in a 5" 45 a good 'ol 16lb recoil with a 23lb main has proven to be a pretty good setup lately…

OK… samuse, is the 16lb good to go with +P load or do I need a heavier spring for that?

Also, what benefits does a flat wire spring being to the table. I assume I will have to switch spring guides to run that set up correct?

Tyler,
The Flatwire brings LONG LIFE to the table…here is the kit( comes with the necessary guide rod…

Up to 10 times the life of round wire springs.

I need to try that kit in my MC Operator! Cheers… Ron

PS: The main spring in my MC Operator felt more like a 26-28#… Impossibly stiff… It has a 23# now.

If you were gonna run a pretty steady diet of +p, an 18.5lb variable may be bettr. I don’t know, I don’t use +p…

You just have to take WCR’s advice on the flat spring. I have a flatwire in a 9mm CQB Compact. I don’t plan on ever changing the spring…

Are your guide rods relieved to avoid contact with barrel lugs?

Eternal,
Our guide rod head is dimensioned to properly fit an inspec frame and barrel lugs. I’m sure you are asking if we have an angle on the rear face of the guide rod head, and we do not. If your gun dimensionally needs that angle, you can certainly add it, but most guns do not.
