RECOIL Magazine?

Anyone read RECOIL magazine? I don’t read any gun magazines except for American Rifleman which is free with my NRA membership. I find gun magazines mostly garbage but have picked up a few issues of RECOIL magazine and it’s top shelf. Has various gear reviews and higher end gun reviews. This month’s has a training article from Pat McNamera and write up’s on the KAC SR25 and Surgeon Scapel. Very good stuff if you haven’t seen it.

I prefer the somewhat “obscure” gun rags, meaning the ones that aren’t on every newsstand shelf. Recoil, Surefire Combat Tactics etc.

I read RECOIL. I have a stack of them by the toilet. Good shitter reading material.

They had their troubles a year ago or so. The editor went nuclear. But it seems to righted itself. I just renewed my subscription. There are worse ways of spend $15 (electronic version). It’s definitely a different kind of gun mag. They will actually say bad things about reviewed items. DIY seems original. Going hot? How can you not like it? Just be prepared for A LOT automotive related ads. The publishing company’s background is in that field.

What happened last year with the editor?

Dick Metcalf type scenario. I will no longer buy either magazine as a result. Good photography though.

I got one for free when I bought my most recent BCM upper last week. Paul Buffoni is interviewed in it and has some pretty good 411 on BCM. Oct 2013 I think is the issue.

I wouldn’t buy it though. I’m just a civilian, I have no need for most of the guns and equipment in that magazine.

You’re not fooling anyone. You work for The Man! :dirol:

Is OFF THE GRID still being published?

Only magazine I read is SAR and that is mostly for the historical articles.

Problem with magazines is you get OPINIONS of the writer and the facts are subjective to their knowledge and what they are willing to verify.

I get the rifleman due to my NRA membership and I barely read it. If I want to read some factual and interesting gun articles I have a stack of Soldier of Fortune issues from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Even though it is not intended to be so, I have come to the conclusion that it was the best “gun magazine” that ever existed between Peter Kokalis and Ken Hackathorn, etc.

When I read SWAT, Recoil and all the other recent rags I feel like I’m reading TOS with some of the nonsense in there. I just don’t need that much editorial content.

If you want to read about guns I suggest grabbing as much as you can from Collectors Grade Publications and anything written by Ed Ezell. You’ll be much better served.

Never read that rag. Due to their past actions Recoil magazine is on the do not buy list along with other firearm related companies that do not support the Constitution.

I bought the last issue for the article by Pat Mac. All in all it’s an okay magazine. I am of the belief that magazines are now outdated in the internet age however. Magazines thrive on advertisers. Forums have thousands of users who will report their findings on various products and share information.

I had my problems with them last year with Tsai’s comments but have started to buy them again after this new Brit took Jerry’s place. There are definitely more articles that cement the 2nd Amendment overall and guys like Pat Mac & Seeklander do blurbs so it is good exposure to regular Joes who don’t take firearms as seriously as we do. Good thing in my opinion.

That ain’t no lie! I too have a stack of well-worn SOF’s from the 80’s and early 90’s. I had a subscription when I was in the Army (see sigline for dates). I even have a couple from the late 70’s and early 80’s when I was a teenager. Awesome stuff in those oldies! Rhodesia, Angola, El Salvador, the Contras, Afghanistan Part I, etc. Still have the one with RK Brown on the cover with the first AK74 to (supposedly) come our way…it was missing a pistol grip.

True, but do you have a computer in the shitter?

Exactly. WILL NEVER buy a copy.

I’m in the same boat as you. After they got rid of Tsai, and admitted they messed up, I gave them another shot.

I buy the magazine for its photos of the gear they review. I’ve found that their content is mostly fluff, but I’ve seen the emergence of some substance since whats his name (I can’t believe I forgot his name) took over the editorship.

I say give them a chance. Everyone deserves another shot and I feel that they are sincerely trying to right the ship.

Yep, I also have the SOF trumps the CIA issue. I can’t think of a single “gun rag” today who would do anything like travel behind enemy lines to research previously unknown enemy hardware. Best they can offer is a chart.
