Recent, higher round count S&W E-series 1911 feedback?

I’m in the market for another 1911. Years ago I had a S&W 1911SC which ran ok, but I sold it as I wanted a gov’t 5" size 1911 as well as a steel frame. Today I’m considering the S&W E-series railed 1911TA either SKU 108409 or 108411. They have the improved, proven extractors from the performance center models that my old SC lacked. My SC never had a FTE, but was a bit erratic and hit me in the forehead more than once. It also had no barrel crown and the safety did not positively engage.

I’m looking at this versus a TRP. I like the S&W external extractor, but at the same time not being user serviceable is a downside. Overtime either would be upgraded.

Anyways, last good review I saw was Hilton Yam’s 2000 round count review of the E-series which was good, but I’d like to see a few more data points. I haven’t heard any new updates from Yam or many with a significant number of rounds. Any feedback?

Bump for some input.

On 10-8 Performance’s FB page, they were recently asked if they’d be better off with a Colt Rail Gun or a S&W E-Series. The reply from 10-8 was Colt Rail Gun.
I don’t know anything beyond that about it.

I haven’t seen any with a high round count yet. I haven’t really heard anything bad about them though. You get a lot of options for the money which always has to make you wonder how they do it for the money. Buy one and let us know how they handle a high round count

I remember someone on 10-8 forums saying that there had been a few problems with extracters, but that the problems were solved by putting a different spring in(either a stronger one or weaker one, depending on the issues).
I’d be interested in what some of the 1911 gurus have to say one the matter. I would think at this point, the best way to approach 1911s is to find a few dependable sources for what to buy and how to maintain it and do things their way. I personally tend to follow what Hilton Yam at 10-8 Performance says, and my 1911 is being built for me by Steve Morrison at Mars Armament.

Per 10-8’s site, Hilton recommends the TRP for duty usage, provided it passes the basic usage tests he also lists on his site.

That said, I own and use a TRP Op for duty and have not regretted that purchase. The SW E-series definitely provides a lot of bang for buck.
