Recce build - lmk what you think

K, so my next build is going to be a RECCE style build. Ive got a Lower and upper already. Just needing a barrel and stock and wanted to know what your opinion’s were on my choices.

Barrel -
BCM 16" SS410 Barrel with Mid Length Gas (stripped) 1/8 Twist (Ionbond BLACK)

Stock - CTR

Heres what I have already -

M&P15 lower

  • Mil Spec Tube
  • MOE Grip

M&P15 upper

  • Troy 13.8in Rail
  • Burris 3-9x40
  • Burris PREP mount
  • BCM BCG

Im pretty set on what barrel I want, Im just not sure what I should do stock wise really.

I’d probably put a heavier stock on it.

Probably be better off with an EMod or ACS for a Recce build, you’ll want the better cheekweld for the optic.

M16-A1 stock is a good option as well.

Often overlooked, yet still a solid option.

The Sully stock, with its fixed length of pull is an often overlooked option too. The Sully is approximately the same LOP as a collapsible stock locked at the first detent. Additional rubber buttpads can increase the OAL by another inch.

Ive been debating on collapsable vs fixed, and the more I think about it the more I would prefer a fixed. I was thinking about a A2 stock, as my Limited rifle for 3gun is a A2 20in, so was thinking same length of pull, but Ill look into the A1 stock, how much shorter is it? Not by much?

The A1 stock is 5/8" shorter than the A2.

I use the Cav Arms A1 stock purchased from Fulton Armory and really like it. The Fulton Armory stock comes with a metal trap door assembly that doesn’t feel cheap and is much more durable than the standard plastic one from Cav Arms.

+1 Sopmods are great for that style rife.

FWIW, put a UBR on my Recce, like it a lot so far. Feel of a full stock, but function of a collapsible.

Well Id love a UBR, but my budget doesn’t allow for one.

I ended up going with an A2 stock. buddy of mine has a RECCE build and I threw my A2 lower on it just to see how it felt and I really liked it.

I’d look into Monty’s at Centurion Arms and his barrels. I got my 12.5" installed and sighted in Saturday. Fires like a dream!

I know he has some Recce/DMR uppers and barrels so you may want to ask him for advice. He’s known as Grinch here…

Im debating on just getting an entirely new upper. Grant has Mid-length BCM 16in uppers in stock. Thinking about getting one of those and having the front sight block shaved down. I can do that at work(machinist by trade).

Just curious as to if I should do that or just get the BCM SS410 RECCE 1/8 16in Mid-length like I was thinkin before for my RECCE build.

How much would my accuracy be effected by going with a Gov’t profile barrel vs a Mid-weight Stainless barrel?

If you are going with the fixed stock & truly want a recce build, go with the SS410 bbl from Bravo.

The gov’t profile middie upper is a carbine upper, no matter how you slice it. For a carbine, I would stick with the CTR and keep it light!
