My 2/0 reamers, and assorted #31 bits showed up today.
I have a new barrel to drill and ream and old straight pinned barrels to ream then pin with 2/0 taper pins.
I want my pins to work like those on Colt’s and right now I have no access to a Colt to check.
Speaking from the ejection port side or non-ejection port side which side are the taper pins inserted on Colt’s?
TIA.![]()
Taper pins are inserted from the right side (ejection port side).
Anybody know off hand what the thread pattern is for the front sight?
I still need to make an alignment jig for my FSB.
I remember reading some other threads about trying to find the correct reamers and the cost was a little expensive.
http://www.victornet.com/cgi-bin/victor/index.html
I picked up the #31 drill bits and 2/0 spiral cut reamers only $7.90ea from Victor Machinery
$21.72 not to bad for (8) #31 bits (3 US jobber, 3 Screw Machine length, 2 Cobalt jobber) and the 2 reamers. Just for current and future AR work.
I needed a bunch of other stuff too but shipping was $10.

That design does look nice and inspired me to pursue this route buying a stripped barrel.
I have access to a full machine shop and just plan to make my own jig.
I plan on making only one jig for my shop’s use aligning off the flattop upper and possibly be used to align FF rails too.
I’m making mine out of available scrap material so cost is nothing more than my time which should not take too long.
Found answer to second question.
Front sight thread pattern is #8-36.
Project finished last night.
We ended up just mounting the upper assembly by using barrel blocks on the front end of the barrel in a Bridgeport type mill. The receiver was set perpendicular to the table and the FSB was positioned and clamped using 123 blocks and copper slugs. A single point indicator was used to equal the center of the upper receiver to the center of the front sight post.
Drilling was done using cutting oil, first a center drill, then #31 HS stub, reaming was done by hand to fit. It worked out quite well and is very straight in alignment.
We plan to ream all of our straight pinned ARs.
Here is the end result.

Excellent work!
Good stuff!
ecellent work there.
and I always thought I could do this with a hand drill, vise and a Guinness.
Comp,
Any idea when you FSB jig will be available from Bravo?

Nope. I get told the same thing as everybody else, they are busy and working on it.
I did not even get that.![]()
