Destin Sandlin from the SmarterEveryDay YT channel interviews Luke Talley, a former IBM engineer who worked on the Apollo program, and they go through the entire Saturn V rocket system from bottom to top in detail. Extremely enjoyable and fascinating video.

That was one of the most enjoyable 1 hour on YouTube that I’ve experienced in quite awhile. Thanks for posting the video. Mr. Talley has a very sharp mind to remember all the data he put forth in the video.
This was the best thing Ive watched in awhile- and hits home to me personally in a few ways.
Living in Huntsville for 11 years and growing up on the TN/AL line…Ive passed by there 1000’s of times. Its a wonderful place to take kids…small OR big.
Youd be surprised at the number of people who dont know that in addition to all the rockets outside the Center…this one is laying inside the building that you can see from I-565. I lived about 2 miles away and they do an AWESOME 4JULY fireworks show.
I love this old gents enthusiasm after all this time. He reminds me so much of an old gent…77 years old now, who lives in a small, one light town, back in a holler, and raises bee’s, cattle, and farms. This man is a woodworker and OLD SCHOOL man of the world.
A few months ago- my gf and I decided he needed to get out more…so we took him to Huntsville with us. He hadnt been “in awhile” {decades}.
As we drove past the Rocket Center…out of the blue he called out the rocket in the video and just calmly said in THE most country accent ever…“yeah…I used to work on that”. So, you coulda heard a pin drop. A few seconds later, I said “Do WHAT now”? “Yeah…I worked there back in the early sixties for a few years”. I/we about shat. So, this old farmer starts in on how he saw Kennedy, the astronauts and other celebs back then, like it aint nothing.
It was just unreal to hear this from an old, dark skinned, leather faced, calloused handed country gent as this. He reminds me SO MUCH of the gent in the video its unreal. Im gonna ask my friend if he knows this man.
Another cool guy I saw, I lived way up in the country back in the nineties,down an old road that dates back to the Revolution. Two of the oldest inhabited homes in TN are there as well as a farm given by the 1st Cont. Congress. Wildlife GALORE. Nothing to see 200-250 turkeys, deer in all directions…coyotes, cougar, about everything.
About every Sunday, for YEARS…Id see a Honda 4 door slowly cruising down my road with a very old couple in it, just looking & sight seeing & not hurting a damn thing. Id wave as they passed if I was outside. Come to find out- the gent was Wernher von Braun’s closest, main assistant & his wife.
You never know what some of these old folks have done, or been thru. And its a lesson these little shits of today, who’ve done nothing and most likely never will, need to learn.
