Reading this really pissed me off

The Bill of Rights only restricts the government from curbing speech. You may be protected from a criminal standpoint, but what you say and how you say it can affect me to the point that it causes personal anguish or financial loss. At that point it’s a civil matter. I might not be able to have you arrested for what you say or stop you from saying it again, but I can be compensated for you doing it.

Come to think of it, last year I distinctly remember seeing children at one of these rallies there with the protesters. Some were even shouting themselves.

Personally, I categorize that as utterly reprehensible child abuse via hate filled brainwashing. I don’t care what anybody says, they are in no better place than the indoctrinated North Korean children who’s live and futures are being stolen from them by deranged narcissist adults.

Thank you, for what you do.

Sucks !

That was not his point. The communist far left people put the judges in that make him pay the court costs.

Amen!

Thanks for doing that Gary. Just contributed.

Your probably right, but what would that actually mean? That a conservative judge won’t enforce the first amendment?

I get the potential logic, just not sure I would agree either way. That said, I vote for a public hanging myself. And I am not kidding in the least, they are truly morally horrendous people.

Actually you are totally wrong on that point. Fred Phelps was a well known civil rights attorney in the 1960’s before getting disbarred in the 70’s. He is a periodic Democratic candidate for office in KS, and was a Gore delegate to the 1988 Democratic Convention. Phelps is a true Leftist…regardless of his stance on homosexuality.

From wikipedia:

Democratic Party

Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15 percent of the vote in 1998.[57] In the 1992 Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate, Phelps received 31 percent of the vote.[58] Phelps ran for mayor of Topeka in 1993[59] and 1997.[60]
Support for Al Gore

Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 Democratic Party primary election.[61] In his 1984 Senate race, Gore opposed a “gay bill of rights” and stated that homosexuality was not something that “society should affirm”.[62] Phelps has stated that he supported Gore because of these earlier comments.[63] According to Phelps, members of the Westboro Baptist Church helped run Gore’s 1988 campaign in Kansas. Phelps’ son, Fred Phelps Jr., hosted a Gore fundraiser at his home in Topeka and was a Gore delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention.[15]

So his son died for them and everyone else in this country and now they think he should pay their bills too!! Some people have no respect for the ones who give their lives for us.

This is a horrible situation, however there have been some things stated in this thread that are misleading or inaccurate.

Some things that came out in an interview that I saw earlier today:

The court awarded the reimbursement of court costs and fees associated with the suit. This does not include paying for their lawyers.

He does not intend to pay this judgment unless confirmed by the Supreme Court.

The “church” has filed an additional suite for reimbursement of court costs for the first trial. Here his exposure may be as high as $90,000 even though they lost the initial suit.

I believe his legal representation has been pro-bono.

None of this minimizes the tragedy this man has suffered and continues to suffer at the hands of this “so-called church.” I am informed by something my lawyer once told me during a case I was involved in. “Never confuse the law with justice.” Let’s hope and contribute to this man achieving justice.

Golly, what was I thinking. My stupidity is sometimes my downfall. Let me correct myself…

He is an anti-war democrat who also utilizes the ultra-strict, anti-gay, absolutely non-leftist point of view established by the radical church as a pulpit to expel literally beyond baseless hate.

That clear enough for you?

Web site for contributions:

The site is also listed in this week’s Army Times.
Looks like the idea is to bankrupt the lowlifes.
The Good Guy attorney’s are donating their time , but there are other related costs.

It appears Bill O Reilly is paying the fine for the family. Hats off…

Not a fan of Bill, but I’ll give credit where it’s due.

I could have sworn there were laws in this country still about “Fighting Words.”

And I fail to believe that the majority of courts would ever have a problem with a “temporary insanity” plea for a parent who beat the ever living [deleted] (or worse) out of Phelps during his child’s funeral.

Sure we have Free Speech in this country. But just like everything else we are free to choose whether or not to exercise, we are also absolutely responsible for the consequences. Or we used to be, anyway…

Time for a pack of freedom lovers to show up at the Westboro Baptist Church and stand in the middle of the assemblage during services singing Black Sabbath songs at volume.

No. This is a legal scam they run. They do utterly vile protests intended to incite citizens and municipalities to violate their “rights”. The whole family is a bunch of inbreds who also happen to be lawyers. They sue and live off the legal fees they collect. They need to be disbarred and their frivolous lawsuits laughed out of court.

Props to the Patriot Guard riders who defend the funerals of sevicemembers from this pack of cur dogs. This is the only group of scumsuckers I literally wish physical harm. I keep hoping to someday read in the news that while on their way to “protest” a funeral, they met a semi-truck broadside. :frowning:

Sign me up! Westboro ain’t that far from here and I like Black Sabbath!

Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.

We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives:

Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.
