Ok so about 2 months ago I got a lower for $40 and I’m wanting to make it like one of the NDS Partial Fenced Lower for $120 less than what they sell. This means I need to Dremmel the Fence off the mag well. After I do that I will need to cover the exposed ‘Al’ with some coating. What coatings look good when trying to match it with its original coating. I also want to do it myself without having to buy too many tools for the job if I could. Would Black Spray Paint work well and not look like I’m trying to hide what I did to the Anderson Arms Lower?

The Technical Discussion area might possibly be a more fitting place for this thread, but (in my own, unofficial opinion) this sub-forum would still be the most relevant for discussing options for works in progress.
For your question, the best route I can think of would be to 1) remove the areas in question, 2) flatten them (via a lapping plate or other comparable method) to completely make them flush with the surrounding area, 3) mask off critical areas (basically any holes, threads, and interior) and bead-blast the whole lower to a uniform texture, and 4) color-match and CeraKote the whole shebang (leaving the holes, threads, and interior plugged and masked). Short of re-anodizing, there’s no way to guarantee a perfect match… and surface hardening may be an issue as well.
In the end, it may end up costing about the same as a Spud, but may prove to be good practice for some project further down the road.
I would highly recommend not using a Dremmel on your lower.
