RDS on Carry Pistols

Yes, i tried one for a rifle, same results.

I swear i think I’ve seen that same idea used on something old and it may have even been a rifle.

Probably not too different in use than the ASP Guttersnipe.

Some other company(or maybe more than one) used a channel the full length of the slide, but it was tiny…like half a coffee stirrer sized groove level tiny.

I have not seen that Rogan has (had?) MD. You don’t need a bed per se, you can get panels of various sizes. Not all are created equal, one that seems highest quality is: https://platinumtherapylights.com/

Studied with MD have been small but promising. Eye doc does support use of a vitamin for diagnosed (see vid…) for AMD and discusses red light data:

David Sinclair of Harvard has been ab;e to make blind mice see and now they are starting human trials

Oh i can soo, I have better than average vision and have to have it checked every 2 years for a DOT physical. Hoping they come out with some way to fix the astigmatism and scratched corneas.

I would like to be able to have a red dot on my CCW pistol

I work with and or know the people directly involved in developing that technology. It’s a direct offshoot of longevity focused tech using Yamanaka Factors. Targeting specific aliments/diseases with that tech and getting approval for it, is early proof of concept demonstrating benefit on specific organs or ailments, then approval as longevity treatment. Big $ now involved with developing Yamanaka Factors for treatment of disease, and the ultimate chronic disease, aging itself.

My first RDS was a 90s era Tasco ProPoint tube type. Made in Japan. Terrorized it on centerfire pistols. Still works like new, as do the Taiwan and Philippines examples I have. Also Burris, Aimpoint, Trijicon and Primary Arms. All on recreational handguns as well as ARs. None on carry pistols. My EDC for the past decade has been an LCP so…

I suffer astigmatism. Dot looks fine while wearing my distance glasses. Without distance glasses the dot looks like a starburst or a comet with a tail.

I will look into this, maybe glasses can help me out.

Funny enough, I see a lot of reviews about the Osight SE saying that it is the clearest and the best for people with astigmatism. I know their first foray in the red dot world didn’t go so well, but from what I have been seeing about their new models, the durability and glass seems legit. I’ve never got to see or use one, but for the price, I might pony up to check one out on their next sale like Black Friday or similar.

I’ve not tried the Osight SE, but I can tell you the Osight C is legit. Been running mine on a G22 gen 5 for a few months now and it’s solid.

For those suffering astigmatism and seeing what appears to be an irregular RDS shape dot… try this next time the optic is off the gun. Rotate the optic in your hand as you look through the optic. The irregular shape dot won’t appear to rotate with the optic.

An optometrist will measure your astigmatism and correct with prescription lens.

Colt did the “gutter sight” way back on the Model 1903 and vest-pocket 1908, IIRC.

I too have astigmatism. Went into the local gun shop thinking I wanted a green dot cause I thought I read somewhere that green was better for astigmatism. I tried many different optics and found that the green dot for me did not work. I ended up walking out with a holosun. The red from the holosun was the best looking to my eye, even over much more expensive products like trijicon. I now have three glocks that I carry on a regular basis. 2 have milled slides done by Jager Works. One is a Glock with MOS. All three have Holosun red dots with suppressor height back up iron sites.

I found that my speed and my effectiveness at shorter range was not improved over the iron sites. However, at range is beyond 25 yards, the red dot is a massive improvement. It only took me about a week of dry fire and draw to presentation practice to find the red dot quickly with repeatability. I am not going back to iron sights only.

Which holosun did you get? I tried 2, and they were crappy for my eyes. I read holosun is the way to go. But no where local has them on display. The people at cabelas would not help me look at them

I have three of them

Holosun appears the same, or a bit better to me, than Aimpoint or Trijicon, although all are useable to me since i don’t see multiple dots. With those 3 i see a ray at around 7 o’clock, but otherwise the dot “edge” is crisp. Cheap dots that I really wouldn’t trust occasionally have even less distortion.

Green dots don’t look as good to me as the red with the edge of the dot looking like hundreds of tiny burs instead of a crisp circle, but it still looks round and is a single dot so it is useable.

Holographics are another that are supposed to be better for astigmatism, but look entirely grainy to me. Same deal of a single dot and round, but nothing appears to be advantageous for me over a standard dot.
