What do you guys like to use for holding cleaning supplies (brushes, bottled and spray chemicals, swabs, etc.) ear muffs, spotting scopes, staplers, etc. when at the range or when shooting in the field? I’ve been toying with getting a large tool box such as from Craftsman but looking to see what others use. Right now I have an old tackle box I use for cleaning supplies and an old bag for carrying muffs, staplers, etc.
It depends on what I’m doing. I’ve got an MTM box, I think it’s their “Shooter Accessory Box” that I use with my precision rifles. I keep my bore guides, targets, 22lr, 223, and 308 ammo in it. I’ve got a Plano Field Box that I keep filled with 10/22 mags, 22/45 mags, a box of 38 Special reloads, and filled practice mags for my carry guns. The 22/45 also stays in it so I can go at the drop of a hat. I keep a stapler and staples in my car so I don’t need to keep a separate one for each box/bag.
I’ve also got 2 Dillon Range bags; I used to keep one set up for rimfire shooting and one for 3 gun matches.
Small bag w/ boresnake, eyes, ears, etc. for range gear, Craftsman tool box for rods, jags, brushes, patches, etc. for home cleaning. I always clean at home so it works out OK.
I was looking at range bags, man are they over priced for what i need. I bought a pretty nice tool box for my truck not too long ago, Im thinking that would work for my range box, I think it was about $12or so. So thats the rought Im going to take,
For cleaning gear I have a large Flambeau box that I picked up at Wally World in the sporting goods department a couple of years ago, basically a large toolbox with fold out trays on the sides that is lockable when closed. It works great for tools and cleaning stuff because I usually carry a rifle rod in my rifle cases. I am another that usually cleans at home if possible.
For the range I have a large Uncle Mikes range bag, it contains, ear pro, extra eye pro, shot timer, pens/pencils and markers, dummy rounds, gloves and a small b.o.k. and a staple gun/staples. This bag also has a pistol rug and storage space on the side for carrying more than one pistol if needed.
I guess I’m a bit behind the times. I use an ALICE pack if I’m hiking out to my shooting area. If I’m on horse back I put my gear in the saddlebags. I’ll still use the ALICE for the larger stuff when riding though.
