What do yall think about the 2 inch UTG rail covers. I have a 10" rail and Im lookin to wrap the whole thing pretty much. If UTG covers suck can anyone point me in the direction of an alternative. Right now I can get enough 2 inch covers to cover 3 sides for 16 bucks and have some left over. And I dont want to get 6 inch ones and cut them either.
do not get them!!! i had them on my rail system when i first got my rail i thought they where cheap enough like 12 bucks for enough to cover a carbine rail system and they do not stay on when shooting your firearm. After 10 to 20 rounds they will start walking them selves backwards and will evuantually slide off by them selves just by firing your ar. I took them off and sold them to some kid for his airsoft gun, I would go with KAC rail covers they work great or magpuls rail covers but i hear they are a pain in the butt to take off.
Larue’s index clips are also nice, although they are a hair on the more expensive side.
Get your flame suit on…UTG will be blasted over and over on this forum.
Go for Magpul or the like. Rail covers are small potatoes compared to everything else on a quality AR.
The Troy covers get my vote, they are not my favorite…but at 3 for 20.00 they are great.
Either the Ergo-Falcon covers or Magpul if you are on a budget.
I have found that they don’t lock up very well IMHO…
magpul ladder rail covers. I like them because they dont increase the overall diameter when the rail is gripped
I find the ladder covers can let your hands get hot with prolonged shooting.

I have a bunch that came with a UTG rail dealio I purchased a few years ago for a 10/22. I’ve used the UTG rail panels briefly on the UTG rail thingie, a FIRSH quad-rail handguard, and a YHM quad-rail handguard. I never had any fitment problems with the UTG rail panels on those items. They seemed to snap onto the rails pretty well and stay put. BUT, I never left them on any rifle long enough to really evaluate them. I do know they are a little on the thick side.
cdj588, if you’re interested, shoot me a PM with your name, your street address, the title of one of your all-time favorite movies, the name of your favorite childhood toy, the name of a person (past or present) that you admire and aspire to emulate, and I’ll send you however many short UTG rail panels I have. You don’t need to provide any reasons or back stories for the info I requested.
Edit: Some of my UTG panels are black, and some are ‘rattle can tan.’
+1. FWIW, I have also used the UTG rubber snap-on rail covers and have never really had any issues with them.
I’m not a big fan of the Larue index clips because they are such a pain in the ass to install and remove and very easy to loose. YMMV.
Uh. . . what?
Sounds like the answers to security questions to me…
Rather than just blindly asking for an address and sending something off at my expense, I thought I’d ask for a little something in exchange. No hidden agenda, no ulterier motive - just off-topic random interest.
On this subject, I’m looking for some advice. I just bought a flatop AR with a 12" FF rail. I would like to know of different options for rail covers for this rifle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I appreciate the ability to reconfigure/reposition the LT index clips, as I need. They are not that expensive when one considers the configuration options, which they afford.
the KAC grips were my favorite for a while, but they all seemed to wiggle a little bit after a while. they can get pretty expensive, but luckily i was able to get a ton of them with various M4/M5 RAS kits.
when the Magpul XTM panels came out, i found that they locked up very tight even when cut in half and offered a lower profile than the KAC. I never had a problem installing or removing them, very easy with two bullet tips. if you follow the instructions, put the bullet tip into the small notch and while keeping upward pressure on the locking tabs, push towards each other, they come right off.
recently, i decided to try the LT handstops on my one AR which included the index clips. they’re even lower profile but still durable enough to prevent damage to the rail unlike the soft santoprene rail ladders which will self-destruct pretty quick when using a rough surface for support. on LT rails, they have a tight positive lockup, but they aren’t difficult to remove. this is on four different LT rails (two 7.0s, 10.0, 13.2) with various production dates over the past several years. most of the complaints of the LT index clips requiring a dillo or equivalent to install that i’ve read have been on other manufacturers’ rails.
hope this helps.
i have KAC panels on my A4 and MK18 clones, as well as my GSG-5P w/ clone RAS.
i have XTM panels on my wife’s SBR (bottom rail only) and my LT stealth.
i have index clips on my one 14.5" M4A1 and i’m currently waiting for the FDE handstops to change over my other 14.5"
The KAC didnt fit on my rails except on first notch. I have not had much luck with them. I was able to use them on my LMT MWS. I do like the Magpul Legos. Easy on / off and functional. Just be aware, not all rails work on the KAC. Someone may be able to better explain. If you can, and you want them, try to find them in a retail store and put them on your gun before you order online. They are very nice, just not real versatile.
KAC covers are the best, however, I replaced my KAC’s for Surefire Ladder rail covers for a lower profile.
Personally like magpul XTM or Larue index clips. Every rail type rifle I own has a combination of the two on it.
