Rail covers - Magpul XTM

Does anyone use the magpul xtm rail covers? I was wondering how these compare to the other types of rail covers on the market. I’m thinking about picking some of these up, but would like others input on these.

I use them on two guns. They aren’t as grippy as XT panels, but their low profile allows a much smaller grip radius compared to most covers on the market.

I find that they hold the rail tightly and if you order different colors you an get a “digicam” effect. The first time taking them apart can be confusing, but once you figure out what you’re supposed to do, it’s not an issue.

if you get them, make sure they’re the newer ones. the older ones had very sharp corners, while the newer ones are rounded just a bit

sounds like these would work for since I have smaller hands I guess the only way to find out is for me to actually by them and try them out, thanks for the info

ok why did it just post twice, hmmmm

I prefer them over the XTs I used to have because they are thinner and make it more comfortable to hold the forearm…

What do y’all use to take them off the rail? I already broke one using two rounds.

How’d ya manage that?

I just did a push and pry like the instructions say, using two rounds…

I use a couple of dummy rounds to remove them. I’m surprised you broke it…before I figured it out I pried HARD on one and it held up well. Give Magpul a call, I’m sure they’ll send you a replacement.

Just use two rounds and be gentel. I just built up all of our SHOT demo rifles, around 20 plus guns. Most of them had XTM’s that were installed and removed several times. Easy day.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

Pics of the rifles or vid of XTM application?

I can do the vid but no can do on the rifles as there are some new things I can’t let out of the bag.

I’m guessing pics of the rifles since installation of XTM panels is pretty straightforward:p

Ah, you figured out my nefarious plan! SHOT sneak peek was what I was going for.

Please? I have to believe I’m doing something wrong to make it so tough. I used some SP rounds and even broke the soft points off the bullet ends. I can open them up pretty easy with some flat bladed screwdrivers, but no-go with the tip of a round…

My reply from another thread (my reply is written in BLUE):

Magpul XTM pannels…I kinda like 'em

Not that I would necessarily do so, but I like having the option to / spares on hand… how many sets of the XTM rail covers would be needed, to fully cover a LaRue 13.2" rail? Anyone know?

Magpul’s item description states:

Each set comes with (4) two-piece panels which will cover one side of a carbine rail

But what would that translate to for the LaRue setup? I’d like to go ahead and put an order in for the covers, but not sure how many I should stick in the cart.

Thanks!

Just went and checked the safe… 8 XMT’s to completely cover one rail on a LaRue 13.2

Jeff

Awsome. Thank you very much!
