Do these barrels only come in 14.5" versions, or is it possible to get 16" versions?

14.5" only, but they can pin the muzzle device of your choosing (provided it meets the OAL requirement) on to get you to 16".
I see. The 14.5" still works fine with a mid-length system, right? No odd dwell times or need to expand the gas port at all?
-B
It’s a carbine gas system.
Of late, the conventional wisdom seems to be carbine-length for 10.5" to 14.5" barrels, mid-length for 16" to (debatable)18", and rifle-length for 20" to 24".
You can find their barrels here: http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?cat=62
Drop John or Sheri a line and they’ll be more than happy to answer your questions and sell you a barrel. ![]()
That’s kinda what I’m afraid of, since I’m still waiting on the lowers to get here!
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up and I’ve emailed (seems the best way for me to resist the urge to buy) them my questions. I want a middy (necessitating the 16" barrel), but just don’t need/can’t afford stainless steel right now so the Recon’s out. If I can’t get the Noveske barrel I want, I’ll “settle” for a Sabre Defense one. They seem reputable enough. ![]()
On a side note, Sabre Defense lists their barrels simply as “vanadium” or “vanadium alloy”. Should I assume this is chrome-lined as opposed to chromoly?
-B
Yes, they are chrome lined (except for the stainless barrels).
Also, “Chrome-Lined” is not in opposition to “Chromoly”
“Chromoly” is a generic term for a family of steels that the barrel is MADE from. 4150 CMV is one of those steels. That’s what the C and M stand for.
“Chrome-Lined” is referring to the coating on the inside of the chamber and bore.
Sabre Defense barrels are Chrome-Lined Chromoly barrels.
Oh. I stand corrected then. Thanks for clarifying.

Hello:
Sabre offer’s both, chrome lined & non-chrome lined barrels in 1:9 Twist.
All their 1:7 Twist barrels are advertised as chrome lined thow.
Bob,
Thanks for the clarification. I’ve never looked at their 1/9 barrels, because I have no use for that twist. Now that I know that some are non-chrome lined, I have even less use for a 1/9 SD barrel! But I LOVE my 1/7 midlength!
Jason
Hello Jason:
Not to drift BAC’s thread too far off topic, but, I’m seriously considering a Mid-Lenght Sabre my self and everyone on this site that own’s them (including you) has spoken highly of them.
No need to “drift” the topic, I’ve done it myself now. ![]()
Bob, thanks for the info. My goal is to build up a good midlength build utilizing a 16" barrel and 1:7 twist rate, and while I’d like an N4 barrel I’ve heard a lot of good from Sabre. That the 1:7 barrels are chrome-lined pretty much sells it for me; now it’s a coin toss as to the whole upper or just the barrel.
