I am getting the Bushnell TRS 25 (an aimpoint micro clone) and putting it on my sgl 21 with a midwest industries railed handguard. The sight will not co witness from what I am told. As this will be my first red dot, do I need to be concerned with this? Im most concerned with 25-50 yard accuracy, so essentially close range work.
On another note, Is cowitness absolutely necessary? Does it matter at really close ranges?
Cowitness is certainly not a necessity per se, but it is a very practical and effective way of ensuring that you always have a reliable sighting system available.
Personally, I will NOT use a red dot that cannot cowitness the associated iron sights. Now if I had to, I would probably trust a quality optic like an Aimpoint to maintain its zero and could live without the irons. But on a cheaper optic like this Bushnell, I’d want the cowitness ability.
I dont know how much you spent on the dot sight, but even a Primary Arms micro clone would likely be better, and still cowitness on the MI rail.
Of course the all around best option for AK cowitness is the Ultimak rail.
I would like to get an aimpoint but the price is too steep at this pointl. If I get an ultimak gas tube replacement can I use standard hanguards on the bottom?
http://www.tech-sights.com/ak.htm I was thinking about some of these, looks like it would raise things up a bit. Any experience with this out there ? It might help the OP’s situation.
they do not allow you to open the dustcover quickly to clear a malfunction such as a loose case or round in the receiver, which I have seen happen several times.
the money spent on them would be much better going into the Aimpoint jar that you’re using to save up for a quality optic.
